I've not really been a fan of top water baits. I never seem to have the timing down and always hate to miss the hook sets. It's something I have tried to get better at because I love to see, watch, and listen to a Bass blow up on a top water bait. What's your favorite bait and why? Here's a video of my new favorite top water bait.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u-eCqkJRfo

Growing up a tiny tarp! As time went by, I switched to a chug bug and the spooks but now I really love to walk a spro frog in the spring!
That said, I have missed more than my share.

I used to love to throw a buzz bait and see the blow up on them but I missed more fish than I caught on that bait. I have had a lot of good luck with a clear tiny torpedo but my all time favorite for hook up success has to be the orange bellied Rogue. The three trebble hooks were so sharp I seldom missed hooking a fish the struck it. I would just twitch the bait enough to make it wiggle, let it sit until the water rings around it subsided then twitch it again, slow reel it a little then let it sit again.

I have a similar favorite topwater bait. Mine is the Rapala Original Floating Minnow. I fish it similar to the way you do, but it's so verisitile that you can fish it all kinds of ways. Greatest topwater bait class IMHO.

I have only caught a few fish on top water and those few were on a top water popper with two treble hooks. It is white with a red mouth.
I have tried buzz baits and those soft plastic "Ribbit" frogs but havent had any luck with them.

My best bass of 10.5 lbs was caught on an orange bellied rogue! Close 2nd choice would be a buzzbait...

I love a buzzbait, and the frog is very versitle because of the ability to go weedless with the hook. The plug or walking style baits are a oldschool favorite of my dad. Hard to narrow down to just one type or style.

Hi
New here - actually my first post, but by far my favorite top water is a Zara Spook or Zara Spook junior - I don't fish them with a repetitive walk the dog as most people do though. I will toss it out there and leave it sit for five or six seconds then give it one sharp tug and then again leave it sit for a few seconds. It makes quite a splash when it lands which catches the fish's attention and the next tug allows them to locate and watch the bait and most of the time, two more tugs and they will nail it. Works for me. Good luck
The more complex the mind, the greater the need for the simplicity of play.
