The annual whitebass run up the Yegua has begun. Thursday January 17, I kayaked up the creek and caught several whitebass. Saturday the 19th, lots of fisherman hit the creek and most were catching fish from what I saw. We brought home 25 whitebass. Check the parks Facebook page for more information about the fishing in the creek.

I have not been up Yegua fishing for white bass in years. Is there a way to get to the creek to bank fish? Can you still drive down to and park by the walking bridge up Yegua creek? I think it was county road 140 to army corp road down to a parking lot by the creek/walking bridge. OR... Do you think you can get a johnboat up into the creek from nails creek ramp? Or is it limited to kayaks? I just really would like to get back into whitebass fishing. It's been probably 15 years since I've been there.

Both options are possible,fishing from the bank down at Newmans Bottom (CR140) and going up the creek from Nails Creek Park. Getting a johnboat up to the creek is tough but possible and several guys have done it already.

Making our way to and from the shortcut on Lake Somerville from NCU, we'll always run over or spook fish that are hanging out on the flats. Anyone know what they are? Would they take a fly?
HLS, I'm sure you've seen what I'm referring to.

Lots of carp and buffalo roam the shallow flats around the mouth of the creek and the warmer it gets the more you will see. That's probably what you are seeing. As to whether they will take a fly or not is something I can't answer...

Dang tough day on the creek Saturday.. fished all day and ended up with no keepers! everyone we talked to said about the same.. 1 or 2 fish... what a difference a week makes

Same here. Fished till about 3 and nothing. Took the canoe up from Nails Creek ramp. Awesome day to be on the lake, but nothing but sore arms to show for it.

Going to bank fish on Saturday... Going to try there where FM 124 crosses the Yegua...hopefully they'll be biting...hoping for whites, crappies, or cats...also maybe gonna try some carp fishing...

The wait is over.. the bite is back on! Raul and I kayaked up and fished the lower end of the Yegua while the boys walked down from Newmans. We did well fishing the brush for crappie but caught mostly whitebass. The boys had it much tougher catching only 1 crappie, 1 white and 1 gar. We met up with them at the Wolf Pond area around 4pm and called it quits. Raul did good for a newbe to freshwater fishing, kayaking and the creek but he had a good guide
