I got a hunt/fish boat for Xmas so I thought I'm going to get into bass fishing. Always liked it but never did it much.

I've been reading and watching videos trying to learn as much as I can. It's been a tough start, I've got two 5 hours stints on Grapevine and haven't had a bite. I keep telling myself its just a poor season to start this hobby. I'm still having fun so ill keep working on it. It is more of a challenge than I thought.

On a side note, I'm enjoying the forums. Lots of good info and help.

how are you fishing? Depth, back of creeks or mainlake, lures, ect. I have never been on grapevine, but I would think that you could catch a few fish with a trap in 5 to 10 ft of water on these warmer days, maybe even a jerkbait. other days I would look for a bend in a creek, a long point, ridge, or ledge with your electronics and throw a football jig or carolina rig around

Welcome to the forum. Grapevine can be tough this time of year sometimes but is fun lake when ya figure it out. Before you know it you'll be addicted and want a 50k boat, power poles, side imaging, $500 combos, and you'll figure out a way to justify it all nuts

Don't get disappointed. Now is a tuff time for a newbie. Not long till spring time & the fishing will be awesome. Welcome to the addiction.

Right now I'm fishing main and secondary points with rocks and flipping the docks.

I've already justified 2 new rod/reels and I browse the boat classifieds. Pretty sad for a guy who is skunked so far.

You are starting at a tough time when most seasoned fisherman struggle. Keep at it. Finesse is always good on grapevine like shakey head and drop shot

Dustin, your post sounds like me. I've been at it for less than a year and go just about every weekend. I very seldom put a limit in the boat, but I'm having a blast. Just being out on the water is a blast. I just keep chunking and try to learn something new every time.

Gpv is really tough right now. My son and I hit Squaw Creek two wkends ago (it's a power plant lake with water temps in the low 70's right now) and tore'em up. You might try that or a similar lake until the weather warms a bit.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to try Squaw next.
