What kind of rod and reel setup do you like for shaky head fishing and why? Spinning reel or baitcast?

I tend to go with a baitcast. I feel like have a little better sensitivity and control.

I tend to go with a baitcast. I feel like have a little better sensitivity and control. Ditto. When I cast with a spinning rig, I truly have no clue where it's gonna end up.

Like others it depends. Drop shot setup for the light stuff. But i lean towards a heavier head. With that I like 12-15# fluoro on a falcon cara finess jig.

I like a spinning setup for light weight. With braid on it you get good sensitivity, and it's easy to handle.

Baitcaster for me because I haven't mastered the fairy wand. Bought one about a year ago to learn with and just got frustrated with it and gave it away.

Spinning reel with 20lb braid and a skeleton rod. Put a 15lb fluro leader on it and youre good to go.

I use a Dobyns DX 703 rod and a Daiwa Sol reel. Line-12 pound test Invizx fluorocarbon--3/16-1/4 oz shaky heads. For a heavier shaky head 1/2-7/8 I use a 7ft 6in. Kistler Helium and 15 pound test Invizx.

I prefer spinning rods for light shaky heads 1/4 oz and under. I'll throw heavier ones on a baitcaster. 15lb braid to 10-12lb fluoro leader on spinning and 15lb fluoro on baitcaster.

I've used both baitcast and spinning. Prefer spinning with a Denali Rosewood shakey head rod and a Shimano Stradic spooled with Stren 8lb original mono teamed with big bite 1/8oz head and Zoom Trick worm.

Quantum Tour Pti 20 spinning reel 6 or 8 lb. BPS XPS Flouro G Blanks 7' Med spinning rod 1/8 oz Edgehedz Football Shaky Head I will go up to a 3/16 oz if it is windy. Anything heavier than this and you are taking away the intended purpose of the technique. It's all about getting bites in tough conditions like after fronts and heavily pressured fish and the lighter the better. You can't lose the fish if you can't get them to bite. I still don't have a clue what you guys use the 1/2 to 3/4 oz heads for.
