Or just hunker down and wait for the water to clear?

If the water is muddy, I say nay. Not good for me at least.

they'l bite a spinner fly, like a pistol pete; cast it out and let it sink about 2 or 3 feet then rip it back pretty fast; they react instinctively to nail it; or they'l hit a small bugger if its got a bright beadhead on it-p-

Sure, if you can find them. They'll be more likely near shore or in the slack water. Larger, darker, flashier flies work best. My experience has been that they hit best as the water begins to rise and food gets shaken loose. They slow down as the water clouds up and visibility diminishes.

Thanks for the help and info! I ended up having to actually do some work today so I didn't get to put y'all's theories/recs into practice, but I'll see how tomorrow goes after 12 hrs of no rain letting the water clear!

If the water is muddy, get a real worm. They are a blast on fly rods. The scent bite is on.
