Long time fishing buddies and I have an annual fishing tourney every year. This year we have picked Caddo Lake to try out in at the beginning of April. My team could definitely use some help as we have not won in a couple of years. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and as always happy fishing!

Pitch the isolated cypress trees in the deeper water. The big lake is fairly shallow but if you can find the trees in deeper water then you have a good chance at catching 7+ lbers.

Fish the biggest isolated trees and the deeper docks in the river. For the trees, pitch real close to the trunk. Hit it at every angle and hold on. We used finess worms and watermelon red baby brush hogs to win our clubs Classic there last year in April.

Get a map of the lake with the boat lane markers listed. AID has one that is as good as you'll get although someone else mentioned another one I have not heard of in a post a few weeks ago that also have the boat lanes marked. Do a search on Caddo to find the name of the company.

Good luck this is really a one of a kind lake to fish.

Thanks everyone for all the excellent tips. Hopefully it will help us have a bit of an edge to finally win this year. We can only take so many years of jabs about it! haha

Ha thanks. I've fished in Minnesota when I was younger and learned the hard way back then not to lip those kinds of fish!

I always did well that time of the year fishing the isolated trees around potters point. It will be on a map. There is an Island right out from the boat ramp. There is one big tree on the way to the island from the ramp that usually holds a good fish. Also up close to the island there is a good grass bed that usually holds alot of fish of all sizes.

I know the exact tree you're talking about. We fish that area a lot for crappie with a slip cork and minnow...we're always catching bass! We caught a few last year with a chrome trap in that area.

A.I.D. Associates, Inc. maps are good www.lureoftheoutdoors.com
but I like the Atlantic Mapping, Inc. maps www.AtlanticMapping.com for Caddo Lake Texas/Louisiana

good morning,

i have excellent luck with tubes right up against trees and stumps, anything with glitter...also brush hogs...."steelers" said grass, not sylvainia,
horrific stuff....be sure you clean your trailer after loading up....TPWD can gett real serious about this stuff...there are signs everywhere...

enjoy the view...

good luck,
