I find it funny when people try to compare Falcon to their home lake or any other public lake with regards to fish care, stockings etc. Falcon is an entirely different scenario than anything else that exists. You simply cant compare oranges to apples.

Geeez Dan, thats just nutz.

With all the hype about Falcon the past few years, it would seem many have helped with the decline of big fish, if that's true. In turn, has it not taken a lot of pressure off Amistad ?? Will that lake regain its once big fish status as it was before Falcon took it away ?? Just asking for your thoughts

when amistad fills up again, it will get better as will falcon. that class of fish cant rebound in 1-2 years. The lake filling combined with another 3-4 yrs of growth makes a huge difference. Its a cycle that has played out for years down there.

Amistad bass don't see the best spawning....water can drop or did last year 1' a day. Beds were left high and dry.

I think there is a missing generation of bass on Amistad.

Back around 08 (ish) it was UNREAL for big ol bass! Now you can catch 2 lbers left and right, by the dozens (atleast last prespawn it was that way before the lake/dam was worked on last year).

Back in 08 (ish) you could sit at the ramp cleaning stations and watch bank fisherman cleaning 5lb bass all day long. Senko around the shoreline!

The internet doesn't help, especially on small lakes. Someone smokes them on his nearby small lake, then brags to everyone with an internet connection about it. Within the next few weeks guys who never heard of the lake are driving from Dallas and Houston to fish it.

Word used to spread in the old days, too. I heard when the state record was broken at tiny Lake Pinkston back in the mid 80s there were trailers lined up and down the road as far as the eye could see. It just didn't spread as fast or as far back then.

When you have a great fishing hole and you're the only one...or one of the few...fishing it that's one thing. When everyone starts fishing it that's another.

Shoot I blamed the internet years ago.

Watched my little gem go right down the drain due to pressure from the west and south.

My little gem doesn't have meat hunters, nor low water, just careless tournament fisherman who leave dead/air bladders full fish at the ramp after weighing in their fish.

Most I picked up was 27 one night! None under 3 lbs!

AND it's not a one time deal....it happened again this September. Dozens and dozens left to rot and flounder.

We should often point the fingers at ourselves......makes you think twice about posting about your local lake!

If it's a big lake I don't mind, not that I have smoked any fish lately. But on a small lake? I tend to keep my mouth shut. It just seems like common sense.

I agree, Lake Bonham is a good example of this...

Yup.

I've been on both sides of the equation.

Fiz needles are 50 cents at the Farm and Ranch Supply.

Everyone should have 2-3 of them. (They will clog from time to time with scales and skin).

People really don't care and don't know how to fizz.....amazing how many "old timer" fisherman don't know a thing about fizzing. They always say "What are you doing?".......DUH!

If my bass takes one turn to the side she gets a 10 second fiz and checked on every 5 mins....I paid to enter a tournament, paid gas, and I want to weigh my fish and release her for a fight again another day....possibly win more money off her! smile

Pretty darn simple!
