Is there a safe way to run from Jackson Hill north? I basically want to come out of Jackson Hill and go right up to lake up by deer stand and further. I've seen a couple of boats run through there but there doesn't look like a defined boat lane. Do these guys know what they're doing or do they just have good insurance? LOL

There is a cut that runs just outside of Deerstand and then joins the main north south cut through the forest. It is pretty well marked on most maps and you should still be able to see the path through the trees.

I wouldnt chance it if you are not familiar with that area. If you can tuck in behind someone then that would be the way i would go.

I've been fishing Rayburn my whole life and still don't like running the short cut or long cut going north

If you run with the Navionics chip the Long cut and Short cut boat lanes are off by 100yds. The short cut goes approx. east/west from Jacksonhill point along the south side of the Deerstand to the North/South Long cut that goes from the old Tram Island (north of 147 bridge) to Hanks creek. This part of the Long cut runs along the west side of the Deerstand and then turns infront of Hanks creek toward Shirley creek. Then it turns back north to the "Forbidden Land of the River!!!" LOL
Also, the problem with some of the Navionics chips is that the maps "drop off" just south of the Deer Stand and there are no contour and markings. The Lakemaster for Hummingbird does have the maps for further north but they are very slow to refresh.
NONE of the lanes are MARKED with bouys! And there are several rogue stumps from Hanks to Shirley and further north up the river.

there is not a boat lane on rayburn that does not have stumps...that being said i took the time when rayburn was super low and put down waypoints from marion slough above 103 east bridge to humphrey pavallion in the "lanes" and from hwy 83 bridge to humphrey pavallion...all one screen width apart..unless you are one of my fishing buddies that i've passed those on to...Good Luck running north of 147 unless you are experienced on rayburn or own an insurance company

its not a bad run at all, the lower the lake the easier to run actually to a certain point. right now you can run to the 103 safely if you do some scouting and pay attention to the treeline. im not saying you can just blow out of jackson hill and make it on your first run, but its not as bad as some people think.

the only weird area i can see that could be an issue is the area north of 147 to where the boat lane enters the timber between jackson hill and the canyons. the lower it gets, the more dangeros that area can be. plenty of humps and random timber if you dont stay in the river

A lake local of many, many years did lose his motor ..off the boat -into the lake... running above the bridge.. However, he is fishing the Classic this year, so expect he'll be able to afford a new one.. thumb

are there that many people that fish "the river"? and if so is it any better than the "lake". One would assume it would be better if people are willing to make the long run and possibly damage their boat.
