Hey fellas, I'm from out of town, not from out of state though! We are working in Alice, and stayin in an rv park on Lake Corpus Christi. We are looking for a place to fish. We cross over the Nueces river on the way to the rv park. Anybody ever do any good there? Or can recomend some good spots on Lake Corpus? I have a 4x4 to get anywhere, just about. No boat with me, but I dont think you can get one on the lake anyway. Any species of fishing will do. Long as its fun! Thanks fellas.

we used to fish below the dam alot, when there were flows, and do ok on striper, catfish, and the occassional white bass....you can park at a couple different parking lots and follow the trails up to where the dam is (I suggest a modicum of research on google earth will show you the way)...

be really interested to know what it's like up there, please give it a shot and post your results....

as it gets closer to white bass time, I'll be fishing the park up at three rivers...

Go 20 minutes north to Choke Canyon. Go to Calliham Park and fish the rock ledge that sticks out at the boat ramp.

good advice on a spot, also begs the question, which I forgot to ask him, what kind of fish are you trying to catch? LMB? catfish?

edit* just noticed he said anything...

however, if you're staying at an RV park on the lake, why not just try right there?

Lakes really low. Really low. And no one seams to have any advise about lake corpus. Don't ever see anybody even fishin on it. As far as what to catch, anything off the bank. Would be cool to finally catch something on this danged fly rod! But catfishin is a helluva time too. If I can just get some direction. We're goin to the river below hwy 359 at Mathis, tomorrow evening. Gonna give it a shot. Any advice would be appreciated, or other spots to try. Thanks

I'm just not all that familiar with the areas you are mentioning. I know where they are but have never fished there.
I have fished the upper part of the Nueces above the lake and in the lake itself, and can tell you that the lake can be a fish factory.

Find water that a fish can find baitfish and there will be fish to be caught there.

Talk to the locals around your area as they know more about where and what to use. Find a bait shop and half you work is done.

Just one more cast!

I grew up fishing Lake Corpus. It can be tough but i have caught some nice bass from there over the years. They always seem to be shallow no matter what the weather is. The only problem right now is that it's very low so i havent been on the lake in a long time becuase of that. I will say that the fishing atleast for me has always been better down towards the dam area.

Thanks for the info. There is a park down by the dam, I'll give it a try next.

Mathis lake (Corpus Christi) is my favorite, too bad the city of CC doesn't know how to manage the water in it properly. It was fantastic for black bass and crappie the last two years until the level dropped so low. I was last on it when it was about 12 low and I think it is some where around 17 ft low now. Just don't feel like stump jumping in my bass boat.

You might try the old damn pier at sunrise beach on the south end if it open. And just anywhere on the lake that you can access the river channel "legally". That where the fish have to be cause there ain't much water any where else.

I used to fish below the damn as a kid but haven't been there in years and heard they changed up the access areas down there. Scared some nut job will blow up the damn or something. Who knows....

We have been in a drought but the city of cc have too many people drinking out of the same glass of water. Eventually it runs out!!!

Good luck!!!

My Grandson and I caught catfish in 3 foot water on Thursday.
Used clams and Marvs stink bait.

I lived on Lake Corpus Christi most of last winter and spring out of my motorhome. I fished it nearly everyday when weather and wind permitted. It's dead. They had a tournament, all fish tournament, and out of about 50 people fishing it, I think three fish were caught both days. One was about a 12 pound flathead and the other two were LMB -3lbs. I worked hard for crappie deep, a smorgasbord of baits and not one single crappie. I got info from the ol' timers that live around the lake and nothing but pessimism.

The lake was the highest it had been in years last winter. But they draw it down to aid the spawn in the salt bay at Corpus Christi. The gar have pretty much taken care of the rest of the game fish.

You can catch the catfish pretty regular but the devastation that the city of Corpus Christi has wreaked on this once productive fun family lake is gone, until someone steps up and puts a boot where it belongs.

If it ain't broke fix it 'til it is.
