Most local kayak dealers have demo opportunities where you can try different yaks. It's a great way to determine what YOU "like and don't like" about different models.
I know that APT and Mariner both offer demos. It's a good tool whether you're looking for new or used boats.

Print this off, fill it out, take it to your nearest kayak dealer. They will help you find a kayak that fits your needs. Then, if you still want to buy used, you'll at least know what to look for. Most of the dealers have used, demo or slightly blemished boats at a reduced cost.

I want to thank Chris and Jimbo for reminding me that you may not be anywhere near North Texas.......your local dealer and your local kayak anglers (not always in that order  ) are almost always your best bet for good info on what works best in your area!
