I'm just getting into bass fishing and wanted some ideas on starting my tackle collection. I've got 5 rod/reel setups to cover the different techniques.
If you were starting from scratch what would you buy to fill your tackle bag? I'd like to have a solid collection to cover all different kinds of bass fishing.
Thanks.

Traps
Square Bills, Medium / Deep cranks
Plastics, Plastics and more plastics ( T-Rig, Shaky Head, C-Rig , Drop Shot, Whacky, etc..)
Spinner Bait / Chatter bait
Tops (Poppers, Buzz Baits, Frogs)
Jigs
Vary colors and sizes with all of them.
Some of these will be seasonal. Just start your 5 with what seems to be the flavor of the day on that body of water.
Based on budget, don't get too hung up feeling like you have to buy $15 lures to be successful. H20 makes good products on most of these and they are very reasonable.
Tungsten weights are nice but for starting out, stay with lead. You can upgrade as you see fit later.
Too many opinions on line type / size so you have to decide that. For flouro, Seaguar Red label and for mono, Big Game / P-Line are both very economical.
Don't buy cheap worm hooks but dont feel compelled to buy Trokars just because they cost the most. Gamakatsu is a great, reasonably priced hook.
I missed alot I'm sure but you get the idea.

I will expand a little on sooners suggestions.
Traps-Various brands- but good colors are chrome blue back, reds, and oranges. I like the Excalibur, Yozuri vibe and Strike King red eye shad.
Square bills-various brands also. 1.5 size to begin with in shad, perch, and craw colors.
Soft Plastics,-Lake Fork Tackle ring frys, Hags Tornado's, Grande bass rattle snake and baby snake. Zoom baby brush hogs, ultra vibe speed craws, super flukes, and finesse worms. Watermelon colors, Green Pumplin, black blue, junebug, plumb or tequila sunrise. chartruce (ring frys and rattlesnakes) and Trophy hunter in the snake. Berkley power worms 7 and 10 inch blue fleck
Jigs --many ones out there but start with a flipping jig and a football head jig. Colors--various shades of green, black/blue tip or black/blue/purple, green pumpkin/orange accent.
Top water--1 Yellow Magic for starters
There is a ton of stuff to fish with. This is just a small list just for starters.

Once you get into it you will expand on the suggestions above based on what you like to fish with most.
Like I said earlier, there is a ton of different lures to fish with.
This year I plan on fishing large swim baits a lot more.

start out with PLASTICS...and when you think you have enough.... GET MORE. i'd start out with some finnese worms by zoom then some trick worms watermelon red. then you should try out Lake Fork Trophy Lures amazing selection. i never leave to go fishing without there baits in my bag. i really like the ring fries both baby and regular, some live magic shads, and hyper freaks. but my personal favorite would be a 1/2 oz all terain swim jig in baitfish color with and Lake Fork Trophy Lure 4.5 inch live magic shad in the color magic shad as a trailer it crushes bass any time any where but it really shines in the spring. good luck and if you need any other questions answered message me.

Soonersorlaters has covered the fundamentals pretty well. You'll add a lot of lures in each category over time, and one day realize you fish 90% of the time with 10% of your lures!
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

Below is a link where I asked basically the same question as you and the TFF'ers came through in flying colors. There is a lot of good info on tackle type, brands, colors, rod, reel, line, knots, etc. I still refer to it. Hope it helps. Steve http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...shi#Post7915281I missed this. Tons if great info. Thanks again and hopefully ill have done fish pictures to post soon.

I started with plastic worms for texas-rigged and crankbaits. From my experience, and from what others have told me before, those are probably the two easiest techniques when you're first starting to bass fish. And from there, I've progressed to spinnerbaits, frogs, jigs, and buzzbaits.
