Golden algea ruined that lake several years ago. I don't know anyone fishing there much any more. I fish Champion creek resevoir (Lake Champion)which is near by a couple times a week when I'm home. The lake is low and not easy to get a big boat in and out. I use a small one man kick boat and really enjoy the lake. Lots of timber. Crappie are there, you just have to find them and stay after em'.

I grew up on lake Colorado City it was a great lake until golden algae hit it several years back, TPWD restocked it twice and both times the algea came back and had a 80-90% kill and they will not waste the money to stock it again, it is not worth putting your boat on anymore.

Don't waste your time with JB Thomas as I doubt the water is much over 3-4 feet deep. Most of the fish died off late last summer due to the lack of oxygen in the shallow water compounded with the high temps. Truly a sad story as this was once a fanstastic lake to catch nice fish.

You might give lake Sweetwater. It's down a little bit, but they restocked it after the 07 flood and the bass, crappie and catfish have all come back great.
