Does anyone have an opinion as to why Lake Tyler is such a fickle lake? I fish it often and its either feast or famine for me, mostly famine but some guys always figure it out. Opinions please.

I know you already fish it often but i can assure you alot of guys that do good have fished it a long time and spend many days out there. Some guys spend as much as 4-6 days a week year round. It can be a spot lake at times especially when they are offshore. In my opinion Tyler is one of the best lakes around but it also receives a huge amount of pressure considering its size.

I agree it is a great lake and it does get a ton of pressure. I still love it and like the challenge but why is it so different? I have killed them for weeks on end and then can't even find them on the graph??

Nailed it 100% on every count, Tom. I think it's the ultimate spot lake of all the lakes I fish.

I guess I should rephrase the question. Why are Tyler fish so hard to catch? They can't be more pressured than Fork or Pines. Why do they just vanish?

I have to disagree Fastlane. Pines has more sailboats, skiers, and jetskis than any lake in east texas. Yet Pines fish are still somewhat on a pattern every season. Tyler fish just vanish unless you are Bart Doty or Cameron Pickett Lol

Tom Mayne can help you he has also won a bunch of tournaments on Tyler.

Bart has fished Lake Tyler for years. You just have to spend a lot of time on Tyler and pay really close attention to your electronics. Without grass, Tyler is an offshore lake.

I guess I should rephrase the question. Why are Tyler fish so hard to catch? They can't be more pressured than Fork or Pines. Why do they just vanish? I grew up on Tyler not knowing to many people and with out much of a graph to speak of. With that said i learned the majority of it the hard way. With electronics the way they are now it makes it much easier for everyone. I will also say that there is alot of people that find people that find fish. Not trying to start anything that is just how it works and with that said it not only gets alot of pressure but that pressure it gets is usually in the right spot or two. There is a reason when a guy weighs in on a Thurs night tournament and wins that the next Thurs there are 5 boats racing to the same spot and keep in mind those 5 guys usually have been there 4-6 days already! Again not trying to stir up anything but that is why Tyler can be tough. Honestly, the spring like many other lakes is way better for the majority of people overall simply because the fish are more spread out.

I know a fellow that can consistently catch fish on Tyler. Of course his grandparents lived on Lake Tyler when he was growing up and his grandpa fished Tyler almost every day. He basically inherited his grandparents house on Tyler and he fishes at least three times a week on average.
One bit of advise, learn to throw a large (1 ounce, 1 and a half ounce) spinnerbaits deep.

I have been fishing Tyler over 30 yrs and yes it has its times but overall I can normally get on fish. It is all about knowing the areas they hold to. When hydrilla was abundant it made it easier to find fish without knowing the sweet spots you need to know with the grass gone.It is all in the amount of time spent on the lake and what worked yesterday may not work today or it might only work at times.
