NE Texas is the ideal area for fishing and Crappie.
But, forget the lakeside property or you"ll spend all of your time on maintenance rather than fishing.

Athens, Canton, Tyler area for sure. Canton is close to the interstate and your dead center of Cedar Creek, Palestine, Lake Fork and Tawokoni. This

BTW, I live in one of the best areas on the lake and there are a couple homes for sale. One actually across the street and one down the block which is on the water.
Just saying! I live at 6 mile on Toledo Bend and looked at Rayburn too since I have fished them both since they opened in the 1960's, but Rayburn you can't have a dock as they do not allow for that.
Peak Vise Dealer Tying Materials, Chenille and Hackle For Pictures of my Crystal, Nylon/Rayon or New Age Chenille Please PM Me! Also I have the Saltwater Neck Hackle and some colors of Marabou plus other things![/color]

I did that and picked Sam Rayburn lake. I like the no permanent dock deal. But at the time Toledo was way down and the docks out of water were an eye sore.
I can put a dock in but it has to be removable, and needs to be removed when I am not there.

Military base with commissary is limited to Ft Hood and Barksdale AF Base by Shreveport I believe. VAs in Temple, Dallas, Bonham, and Shreveport. VA has Outpatient Clinics in Lufkin, Palesine, and Tyler. 1+ I work on Ft Hood, 2 lakes nearby Stillhouse hollow and Belton, Belton is the much bigger of the 2. VA in Temple, Waco. Also Lake Waco 60 miles north, You can usually still get care here on Post. Cost of living is good, Fishing is good, Care is Good. You can Drive 90 miles to either Austin or Dallas from Temple, 3.5 hrs to the coast, centrally located. I have a Barge Listed in the Classifieds, Take a look, Camp on the Water. Jamoke

I don't live there but somewhere around Nacogdoches would get my vote.

I think I would choose Gilmer...
Halfway between Fork and Pines. Lake Gilmer is a little gem I have been told.
Not too far from: Welch, Bob Sandlin, Monticello, Cypress Springs, Winnsboro, Quitman, Hawkins,Tyler, Palestine, Athens, and Tawokoni.
God loves you just as much as anybody else!!
Jesus offered His life as a gift for you. Please accept it!

You all have gave me a lot to think about and I appreciate all of the advice and recommendations. I did find out that there is a Naval Air Base near DFW which is good and pretty close to a lot of good fishing. I do know that my current location San Antonio (FT Sam Houston) is out of the question. The closest "good" lake is LBJ and it is 94 miles from my house. So, staying here is not a option.

I had a place on Bob Sandlin that was heaven on earth for several years. Had to sell due to medical bills. Might get back there one of these days. Here is a link to 52 places available now. There are good neighborhoods and not so good neighborhoods on the lake so ask around if you get out that way. Lucky dog. http://www.lakebobsandlin.com/real-estate
