Wife is considering a used vehicle from a dealer that says they are going to replace the left front axle before selling it….Should this be a concern? Does it mean that the vehicle has been in an impact?

Have them run you a Carfax. I would think that if the vehicle took a hard enough hit to damage the axle then it had some body damage. Maybe not thought it could have just been a nasty pothole or a curb. Looks for signs of body work there are many. Numbers written on body parts with a grease pen, waviness in the sheet metal, use a magnet to detect bondo, fresh paint, etc.. Better yet take it to a mechanic that does inspections.

its a 2007 Lexus ES 350. Carfax says it was in a minor on left fender, I went by while car was on lift, its the right axle that is being totally replaced, even saw the new, old one had already been removed but was sitting there... Left Fender was repainted between wheel well and door so it couldnt have been a bad impact. no visible under body repairs. I have read on the internet about these being replaced but the car only has 70,000 miles…
Big concern?

Also, tires have even wear (overinflation showing but i doubt they could have rotated them enough to compensate for uneven wear,)and its been 2 years since the carfax shown wreck .
Thanks for any input!

Replacing CV axles are pretty common. If the boot is torn, they need replacing, or a new boot. If the axle was bad, it would make a rapid clicking noise during sharp turns, probably why they replaced it. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

I would personaly take anything from CarFax with a grain of salt. I was burned by it once and sold a truck that had been wrecked and was repaired at a certified shop... car fax siad no accidents, I told the salesman there was as I knew him and he said oh well carfax says not shrugged his shoulders and we made a deal. matt

Not all shops are going to report the work and what if it was fixed under a shade tree.
