When I fish alot, I get some shoulder pain in my casting shoulder.
Gonna go see my orthopedic guy. I'm guessing he will order an MRI to see whats going on-gonna be 64 so its probably just getting older.
In the mean time would cold or hot be the better way to go.

Cold after you fish. Heat the next day.

Alternate both. 10-15 minutes of cold and 10-15 minutes of hot. Make sure that the cold compress/ice isn't directly touching the skin. The hot should also not be overly hot, more deep warm. Both should cover a majority of the effected area.
I have torn miniscus in both knees from running related injuries and my ortho guy says that is the best method when things flare up. Ibuprofin will also help.

Cold after you fish. Heat the next day. Correct You dont want to ever heat after activity. It will bring more blood flow to an already irritated area and cause more unwanted inflammation. Ice after activity to reduce inflammation caused during fishing.

R.I.C.E. Rest, Ice, Compression, elevation. then like Fouzman said, heat the next day.

Basic sports training. Ice immediatly afterword to minimize inflammation with heat to speed the healing on day two until finished.
