I picked up a Lowrance Elite 4X DSI, and mounted the transducer to the back of my boat.
I was getting good quality imaging like the simulation mode shows when the boat is moving. But when I am sitting still the image doesn't look the same as it does when I am moving. I don't know if my settings are off or what.. (This is my first DSI unit).
I also tryed to setup the unit with a fishing jig like I belive "Salsa" showed in a vid, but I'm pretty sure that the Elite wasn't picking it up. I understand that the unit in the vid cost about 20x mine..lol At one point I was jiging around and the screen was showing arcs that seemed like my jig , not sure though..
Any help or guidence would be greatly appreciated !!

Yep normal, it's seeing the same thing over and over so it can't send any new info back to the graph, therefore no change in pics. All DI & SI ducers do it, even the really expensive ones.

Heres what fish look like while sitting still on my HDS graph.

Hey thanks for clearing that up for me.
I am still trying to learn to read this thing. I can tell baitfish , schools of crappie or sandys? The bigger fish I'm not real sure what they are or where exactly..
I did have what looked like to big gar come swimming through my graph. I located some crappie passing under a bridge swung around and started jiging and caught one then the gar came thru and the bite stopped.
Do you see any fish in the pics I posted? Just asking what a trained eye sees..
I really like how detailed this thing is when in motion! Today was actually my first time out with DSI on the boat.

I think you'll find that the examples you saw of tracking a jig on the display were taken using the 2d modality, which you don't have. You won't be seeing any "arches," either. I expect you're correct in surmising that you won't be getting the same quality of images you see on much more expensive displays.

Suspended objects typically appear as small, oblong blobs on "downscan." If you aren't moving relative to them, they become fuzzy streaks as they scroll across the screen. For clarity of image, you need to be moving some, say 2 or 3 mph. If you aren't, even "stickups" can be difficult to distinguish from fish or bait. When you see something, when moving, that looks like fish, you can throw a marker out.

My Unit came with the troling motor mt, I made my own transom mount for the ducer. Good idea about the markers! I may end up getting a 2d to go with the DSI later down the road. I picked up the Lowrance really cheap so I'm pretty happy with it for the money.

Yep, honestly 2d really is the better sonar and all a person needs but SI/DI can cover alot more area and give a better image of what is down below. But what I have found to be the most useful is the GPS chartplotter, I never thought it would be handy but I was a million times wrong.

I origanly wanted the Lowrance elite 4 DSI that has the GPS / chart plotter.
But I ran across this one for sale on CL for $60 and couldn't pass it up..
The Plotter GPS version would eliminate the need for markers , but ill work with what I got for now. Once I get used to this one real well ill probably upgrade.
