Make sure you leave a tag at your knot so as the knot tightens up it will have room to slip

I doubt the knot is the issue. You have to throw those heavy things very gingerly, some people are just too heavy handed.

I have seen bad line do that before. Even fresh out of the package. Sometimes it is just bad or old line that might have gone bad. Not very often though. Also, your rod might be too stiff. Personally, I use a 7'6" Castaway Workhorse. It has plenty of backbone but a MH tip.

I use 20-30-50-100 lb test all with the double palomar knot and leave about an inch on the end, never had a problem with it. Are you trimming it too close? Pull knot wet very tight before use.

I throw the exact same without issue. Not sure what you are doing wrong. I've been very impressed with the PP braid. It really holds its color better than the other brands I've used.
I've been throwing the same spool now all year (2012) and have yet to break it. In fact, you have to cut it when you hang up or it tries to take some fingers off.
As stated..... Maybe you cut your tag too short?

You might be whipping it out there too hard. Most everybody I've seen throwing it a lot does more of a lob cast. When you whip it to hard theres a lot of stress put on the line. I've done it with rattle traps and heavy big game before.

Palomar is knot a good knot for braid. Think about it. If it was, why would you need to have your tag line longer? Braid slips! A way to help prevent this is to take your thumb nail to the line to scrape the protective coating.
What was said about lobbing the Arig is true. Don't wear yourself out and give your line a break (rest) in the process. I throw a DOUBLE rigged Arig, so heaving that weight takes a little practice to slip it in the water rather than splashing in like a cannon ball.
My guess is your knot issue is a combination of stress and choice of knot, but there are other concerns as well. I use a Mojo Bass Swimbait rod. It's not much good for anything else. The tip is very stiff and works well for throwing an Arig. Too many people using expensive med/hey rods and stressing the hell out of them. Get a Swimbait rod or stay away from the Arig. I use an inexpensive shimono ree. Continued use of an Arig plays havok with your drag, bearing and spool, so i just rather replace the reel. I'm speaking of a reel that I only use for throwing an Arig so it gets prolonged use with extended weight. My Arig dressed out can weight as much as 4oz., but I try the keep it lighter with weightless baby flukes and a mag fluke in the center to keep things from tangling up.
Arig is a monster application, but I'd still rather throw it all day over that new XD10 coming out. It's all in the technique and the amount of dedication you apply to it. Or you can do like me and stroll it down at the dam and in deep water as I'm hunting for humps. Try using it in the deeper water columns and it might rip your rod out of your hand. HA! Good luck.

Despite what you will read on this forum, the Palomar is a great knot to tie with braid. You can go see the tests done on Knot Wars to see if you are interested. It was the actually winner of the entire season one, but again, be sure you aren't clipping it at the knot. Give it a few millimeters to slip due to the crazy amount of forces involved in throwing an A-rig.
And did someone say they know a way to throw it without is sounding like a cannon ball going into the water? I have yet to perfect that. I always wonder how many I scare away on landing that heavy thing. I do the lob as well though.

I would not do a Palomar on an A rig unless you are tying it to a clip. The loop would be huge to go over the wires. I would use a double reverse clinch. Alton Jones shows how to tie a single reverse clinch knot on youtube. Double the line and tie the same knot. He does 7 wraps, I do 4 with the double line. Its similar to the double San Diego Jam knot. Very strong and you won't use as much line as the Palomar for the A.rig.
I use a Palomar knot quite a bit and when I use it with braid I tie an overhand knot in the tag end just to be sure.
