My wife and I have decided to go to South Padre Island for a few days this month and I would like some advice on the best areas to shore fish and what might be the most effective methods to use .
I would also like to know what type of fish are best known to this area at this time of year
Thanks

Depends on the wind....

If it's north you're going to have a tough time in the bay without a boat, if it's south and not too bad, try the old PI causeway, you can catch a ton of trout off it at night.

Bring some waders, little cold for wet wading, but take off behind the convention center with some topwaters and sand eels and you should find some action. Really not a non boat friendly place, but you can still catch a few.

Not sure about the wind argument, I've been at Mustang Island State Park (South of Port Aransas) and have done VERY well on redfish and black drum in the surf with a bistering wind from the Northwest and a wind howling in from the Southwest also. Both days I was told the fishing would be no good due to various factors such as wind, solunar table, tdes, etc.

I quietly agreed, nodded my head and took some plugs I used to catch stripers with in the Northeast. Nailed the redfish both days! Threw some chunks of mullet out and caught my7 first black drum! What a blast!! I'm hooked!
