I bought a Daiwa D-Wave saltwater rod and real combo on sale for $24.00 before Christmas. It is an 9 foot rod medium wt. and a lure rating of ¾ to 3oz. The rod model is DWV40-B/F802 MFS. The reel is model D-Wave 4000B, which is not a bait runner. I would like to know if this combo will work for Euro style carp fishing. Is this combo worth keeping at this price for a beginner’s setup? Here is a link to the Daiwa page with this combo. http://www.daiwa.com/pmc/pop_dwave.aspx

it'd work ok.....u have apod or banksticks n alarms? the rod being Med instead of MH or Heavy helps ........just loosen drag up ALOT and then when u get a run pick up the rod slowly and tighten the drag some (but don't crank it down) so the fish can still pull a lil drag when it makes a run...........

You can catch a carp on anything. The rod sounds a bit light for method fishing though and you may be limited on your casting distance but the real answer is it depends on if you're happy with that or not. If you don't necessarily fish too far out and loosen your drag, it will probably work. IMHO you might want to look at a little higher price rod/reel combo to start. Check these out - if you can get to roughly $50 a combo I think you'd be MUCH happier with them. http://www.bankfishingsystems.com/index2.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41

Friends of mine used those same setups that Nick has posted. Worked fine for them...but they did upgrade to better after a few years

I would like to try some fly fishing for carp also. I'm going to try that in the spring.

Czlouie there are quite a few carpers in your area. Many fish the Detroit River area and others area lakes like Kent Lake. Check out the Carp Anglers Group and you'll be able to hook up (pun intended!) with a few if them. Good people!
