Just returned from 5 days of hard fishing, ever seen the sun. Very cold, windy and raining, we picked up two fish ( 6 lb 4 oz on spinnerbait in 3 to 4 foot & 7 lb 9 oz on falcon flash DD22 ) both around dam area.

Well I tell ya what 12 foot of water would certainly help. I just got back from a 4 day Falcon trip and was astonished at the lack of fish catching. With three of us on the boat we only boated four fish avg'd 7.12 a fish. We talked to several boats who had the same results. One of the local guides had two clients drive 22 hours for a day of fishing and the guide and two clients caught a fish a piece with big fish going 6lbs. Normally when you go fishing you can catch more than a limit of dink males right, well the majority of anglers we spoke to had not even seen a dink in quite sometime, there is also more dang bait down there than you can shake a stick at. The fish we caught were thin and looked unhealthy. Something else is going on within the lake that is not quite right. I only hope it rights itself soon. It will be interesting to see how the Elites do down there in March. The giant gar have been eating everything in site. last time down there i had several fish with gar bite marks in them..

Thanks for the responses guys. We got back Sunday evening Fished all day Fri, Sat, and Sun and only caught one 4lb fish between 2 guys, and actually on Friday we had 2 boats with a total of 4 guys not 1 bite. It was tough to say the least, only fish came Sat am flipping a tree in 9ft of water with a mag fluke. I was really upset untill we talked to a few guys at the ramp all with the same story and 2 drove from Colorado and 2 others drove from Illinois, all of a sudden my 3 hour drive back to San Antonio didn't feel that bad.

Fishing Falcon in 55 degree water temps is the same as fishing alot of north Texas lakes in sub 40 degree temps. Those fish shut down.
If you have a choice, make sure you fish Falcon when the water is above 60 degrees.

The warmest water in areas we fished was 51.9. What areas? The only fish that are active at all are below marker 9 and there still almost comatose.

I didnt realize it had dropped that much lately. That definitely has a huge impact on the bite. I was there last prespawn when it was 57-59 and it was ok but then a warming trend got it into the low 60's and it busted loose.

Yeah it Dropped 10 degrees between the 26th and the 29th on the north end of the lake. Add the muddy water and it is a wasteland fishing wise.
I was still catching fish at 57 in tigers on new years day but they were SLOW.

I'm setting here in the rain overlooking the lake. It's gonna warm this week and hopefully champs will put up some weights as a result. Amistad has closed there gates so the North to South water cooling trend should slow. Federation was here this past weekend with few anglers unlocking the pattern. Day one had 18 anglers, no 5 fish limits were brought to the scales biggest stringer was 14.63 with 3 fish and big fish was weighed by another angler @ 9.43 the only fish he weighed inn. Day two had 18 sticks with 2 weighing in fish. First place was a 5 fish limit weighing n at 28 plus with a 9 pound big bass. The only 5 fish limit weighed for the weekend. Second place weighed one fish @ 2.49 claiming two checks, one for second place big bass and another for second place. Now that is sad!!! We here at Falcon are hurting but have no where to go but up. Once the water warms and the spawn pushes forward these fish got nothing to do but eat. So it will be a whack fest when that happens. We hurt this fishery with a lot of things this past year but not to the extent it's fishing. There are big girls out there just waiting to show themselves. Lets take care of them when they do.
