Has anyone had experience with these after market lower units this company sells? They are new and about half the cost of brand name quotes. They advertise a 3 year warranty. I know a guy who has put on 3 or 4 of these and claims to have no come backs. I just don't understand why they are so cheap. $1550.00 for my Yamaha 150. It seems to be too good to be true??? what say yall? Sterndrive Engineering Inc. google them!

I was at merc school with a guy that dropped a sei gearcase in the shop and shelled it before he could even install it. They sent him a brand new one. It's a no fault warranty. For the price I would give it a shot. We dont sell them because we sell merc products, but 700 for a complete gearcase with a no fault warranty, and merc gives a year I think. Flip a quarter

Just had my first comeback on an SEI lower. Yamaha lower broke the prop shaft. SEI took care of lower but I had to take care of the prop, my labor and 78.00 freight.

i put one on a 92 fast strike last year. worked great, saved a lot of money. if you fish tourneys it voids the warrenty though.

Neither one (1) year nor three (3) year warranty covers use of the product for racing or other competitive activities. The manufacturer offers no warranty with respect to the rental or use of the product for commercial purposes, or in the event of intentional destruction, or in applications exceeding horsepower limits stated by SEI.
The above is the text from website.. I called them and asked to explain the competitive activities part.. He said tournaments.
I doubt I will sell another one.

Not in the immediate market, but looks like I definatly will not be looking at theirs if the time comes up.

They seem to get pretty good reviews on the internet on a number of forums. That being said, I wonder how they go about verifying if you were using it in a tournament if the lower unit fails under warranty? A lot of people fish tournaments every now and then, but not every time they go fishing.

We sold and installed 10 or so last year with only one come back. Fellow hit a stump and bent the prop shaft like a walking stick. Had him back on the water in 4 days. His total cost 1 hr. labor. I think for the $ you can't beat them. Most went on big bass boats that fish several times a week and don't sit in the garage very much.
