if you were new to texas how would you go about getting a resident fishing license (praying there is a way to have one before 6 months)

Just go to wherever they sell fishing license. Walmart, Academy, plenty of Mom and Pop gas stations in small towns if you are not close to a big store. I know they will give you a non-resident, I do not know if you have to be a resident for a certain length of time.

i think your to get your texas drivers license within so many days, get that done and with a photo id there should be no problem getting your texas fishing license, you may want to have a utility bill with your name and new address handy, can't remember if it applies here but just in case

Go online and print it out now. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/business/licenses/online_sales/
