When the duck hunters will be out on most area lakes! Early Teal opens mid Sept. so be on the lookout! Please do not fish there decoy spread and please be respectful and try not to fish areas that they are setup and hunting!

Not to start a feud! But if you are in a Tourney and your bite is early morning? And you get to your area and their are decoys everywhere,Who win? He shoots at me and I report. Where does the line get drawn?

I don't think I would go next to a guys decoys and he has a gun plus if the decoys are there I think he beat you to the spot and the 12g he might have has a little more range than the old crank bait I think he wins...

Ive run up on these guys a couple of times before on Grapevine. It was on accident I guess. I didnt know that they were there. I think that it scared me more than anything. I motor up in an area and all the sudden see something move in the bushes.

So in reference to this thread I have a comment backed with a question.

Comment: If you do hunt public waters, for safety reasons more than anything else, try to at least place some kind of identification that you are in the area.

Question: Not trying to be a smart *%$ here or ask a dumb question, but if these people are not using decoys what are some things that I can look for that will show that there are hunters in the area?

If someone is getting all camouflaged up so that the duck cant see them then you can bet your bottom dollar that Im not going to be able to see you either.

On public water I would say that all the hunters are using decoys. There may be a small few who do not but not likely. This may not be the case on private though if the birds want to be there. As for me I stand up and walk out in the water or to the waters edge and wave as to let someone know I am there and that the ducks are decoys and not real. It can get confusing some time with all the local ducks around.

Right now, the way the lakes are down, look for a bushel of cattails or some kind of blind out by the waters edge. That will be a good indication of someone hunting. Some people just don't care sometime about the hunters and fish right out in front of them. I have had this happen on numerous occasions. No I didn't shoot at them. I just bit my tongue and waited them out. Just the way it is sometimes.

When the lakes come back up to normal pool and you pull up to a spot that has ducks around, look to see if they are moving. If they aren't they are deeks. There are still alot of guys using spinning wing deeks during teal season especially, and those things can be seen out to a couple hundred yrds. These are a few indicators of hunters.

you can hunt in Lake Grapevine?

"... the wife of an Aggie assistant coach insulted every female Red Raider in earshot by saying that at least she lived in College Station instead of Lubbock. ("First of all, we just beat them, 56-17," Leach says when told of the incident. "By rights she should now be a Red Raider slave.")

I have a 100 yard rule on Caddo and most good hunters (true Sportsmen) will get on their duck calls heavy to let you know they are in the blind. I'll do a 180 at that point. Lots of water and hunters have a season and we can fish year round.

I have run into the occasional AH though. I always carry my little friend during duck season.

Thanks for the info thumb I guess for the ones that I have ran into on the vine who are not using deeks, there's nothing I can do if I don't see you.

adkim,
Sure can. The permit is free. All you have to do is get one from the corp office in Lewisville. The permit allows you to hunt grapevine and lewisville lake.

I really didn't use it though when I had one. It's a bit of a wierd set up if you ask me. In the same areas that you can hunt, you also have boaters, bikers, hikers, horseback ridding, etc. Just not my cup of tea. I want to make sure that I'm as safe as possible especially if there is a gun in my hands.

Fishing up a Creek once, came to an area that looked so peaceful and quite. Seen this guy waiting in the bushes and new right off he was duck hunting. Did a 180 and headed back out.. I truly respect other Fishermans and Hunters.
