So I've been watching/reading a lot of stuff on this. Was just wondering if anyone has any experience/info on it. I've seen that red lenses help for seeing redfish, green lenses are good for inshore fishing, and blue for offshore. Of course these would all be polarized, but in water like East Matagorda where it's rarely over 1ft of visibility does the color of your lenses even matter?

Yes. Different colors enhance contrast under different light conditions. Also, different people show different preferences; for instance many people like green lenses, but I can't stand them. They are too bright for me, and accelerate fatigue. YMMV.

I like amber or brown, they do brighten up a lot of things, seem to work very well in the inshore areas. The ones I have now also have a green mirror, it makes them a lot darker. I have read where the color of the mirror actually has no special effect on any spectrum, but don't know if that is all that true.

I also go with brown.

The brighten things up but not too much where it'll tire out your eyes

Brown, amber, or copper are mainly used for sightcasting to fish. The mirror finishes on lenses have no effect on the lens, it's just cosmetic. I have Costa's with the 580 green mirror (amber) lens and they are great.

Also, go with glass. Plastic lens scratch too easily from being exposed to sand and salt crystals.

The best thread I have ever seen on this - http://www.itinerantangler.com/cgi-bin/board/YaBB.pl?num=1328213032 . It doesn't get much more detailed than this, and I used the information for my purchases.

I use my all around sunglasses, Maui Jim's... not sure if they are better for fishing than others, but I use them everyday and also for driving, shooting clays, hunting, etc...
Probably the best glass I have had, and I have tried a bunch of brands. Good true color definition and I don't have to worry about conditions, but I am not a hardcore sightcaster fisherman, which might mean different needs.

I *DO* sight fish, a lot, and spotting that blue tail against green grass is easier with brown lenses than any other color I've used. Forget about actually seeing a redfish, unless you step on him, it's the tail that you'll learn to spot first.
