Does anyone know if it is possible to pull a pop-up camper and a boat? I am looking to buy a pop-up but only if there is a way to tow the boat too. That way I won't have to worry about a place to stay when I fish away from home. Cheeper too.

I was in the same boat so to speak. I wouldn't try it. My pop-up has a fairly weak frame. It seems to barely carry itself. Trying to put a boat on the back would make for a very dicey situation.
I believe you would need to get into a fifth wheel trailer to be able to double pull. The pop-ups just aren't built with very heavy frames. You might do some modifications if you want to go to that much trouble.

Cool that helpa a lot Tx-Weeble. Guess I need to look at something bigger then. Do you think you have to go 5th wheel or could I possibily accomplish this with a regular pull behind trailer?

I have a lance truck camper and do it all the time.....but, I am not running two trailers as you would be. This arrangement appears to me to be the best solution for those wanting to tow their toys to the lake or field. Yes, there are limitations as to the size of camper one can put on a truck, but there are some nice units out there. Warning, truck campers are NOT cheap.

John B, consider a cab-over camper that will slide into the truck bed then you can still tow. obviously, stay within your total weight limit (you might need a receiver extension to clear the camper). Once you are at your campsite. You slide out the camper and set it up. Then you can easily tow the boat to launch ramps, etc. This setup has worked well for friends.

I see the double done quite a bit. But like they say, they are mostly with fifth wheels or big camping trailers with a good size truck pulling it too.
They thing would be to check into the Texas law about length. I wanna say it is like 50 something feet max.

I have a Coleman Pop-up camper that has a ball on the back bumper but I would agree with the other advice and not tow much. I would not tow much weight on it, maybe nothing more than a Jon boat on a trailer, but any kind of heavier like an aluminum bass boat and heavier, no way. Besides the trailer is so light and balanced to be light up front, any weight you put on the back will be pulling up on your front ball the whole time. I think all this might equate to a "dicey" situation for the double tow option.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I know I won't be doing the Pop-up thing now. I have a 94 Skeeter ZX175 w/175 Mariner on it. Sounds like that is way too heavy. Thanks again and I will look into another way to get this done.

It's hard to think about putting a squirrely two wheel light frame contraption between you and it. Nothing against pop-ups. They are just made to be towed alone. For that boat, you will need to go with a fifth wheel with the full rigging and\or some kind of truck RV.

I may be out of line here, but with a little creativity why could'nt you pull a small pop-up behind the boat?

JohnB.... I'm in the same situation, and did some checking, and from the advice I heard, you need to put the lightest thing at the end, in my case, the pop-up. Then the question is, how do you create a tow point on your boat trailer to pull your pop-up? I saw a rig like this going down the road one day and they had a frame that looked like it connected to the boat and they had the pop-up at the end of the train. Something you might want to explore.....

I looked at this as well. As a matter of fact I bought the pop-up to see if I could figure something out. I thought about building a frame under the pop-up that would tie all they way back to the main tounge of that trailer. Might work, but was not comfortable. Then I looked at modifying my boat trailer with the same type concept. I have a Champion and the problem was the tailer in the back is sooo low because of the drop down for loading the boat it really didn't look like it would work well. Then I have a jack plate and that sets the motor back pretty far, so the ball for the pop-up was going to be four feet behind the boat trailer with no real good way to stiffen the hitch so the pop-up would not bounce around. Then I thought about my outboard and how ticked I would be if that darn pop-up came up and hit it. Well, with that long story, I did put a lot of studying and effort into looking at it, and then sold the pop-up.
Here is another idea though, I use to have a camper shell on one of my other trucks and I welded up a bed frame that would go over the wheel wells, with a plywood deck. Then I put a window unit in the back to keep cool and a blow up matris on the bed frame. This worked pretty well but my new truck is a short bed and I don't have a camper shell for it. But I think I'm going to shop for one, and put that configuation back together. The hotels and cabins add up quickly after a while. Anyway, sorry for the long post.

My cousin rigged a detachable frame/hitch on the rear of his boat trailer and towed 2 Sea Doo's behind his boat, witch he pulled behind his 5th wheel. Dodge Deisel Dually , camper, boat, sea doo's. We met at Whitney and he came down from BurkBurnett and got a ticket in Burleson for running a red light. He said it was green when the truck went through. I laughed, he didn't get a ticket for being tooooo long. Could have.

I use to pull a 30' 5th wheel with a 20' ski boat behind that with a chevy dooley. This is no problem, quit simple and easy to drive. As posted above the lightest trailer needs to be at the rear. One thing to consider is that the first trailer should be a tandem, if both trailers are single axle I would avoid doing trying that. Friend of mine was doing that years ago and a wheel bearing on the back trailer failed and caused a very bad accident.
