One word "WOW"! bow_down You guys simply amaze me. eeks I have always heard about a large population of Crappie on Mcqueeney and have even heard about some nice catches over the past few years. These are some of the first pictures of Crappie I have seen coming off of that lake. A very good friend of mine told me that there are Crappie in just about every major lake in the area. You just have to find em. rockon

Side Note: What color jigs were you using and how were you fishing em! hooked

The biologist responsible for Canyon says they are upriver, but locating crappie will be like a Sherlock Holmes novel. With the level being down, timber is everywhere, so it's hard to go locate them in the trees without a sidescan. One of these days, I plan on working my way up the channel while tossing minnows towards the banks to locate them tasty critters. A night trip with lights might be productive as well, but I think the crappie lurk just outside of the lit area, so you have to toss into the shadows. I had heard from a guy that slaughtered them over a 2 week period right next to the Rebecca Creek boat ramp during the spawn, but the ramp is currently closed, due to low levels. If I figure them out, Chuck, I'll be sure to spread the news.

People are very tight lipped about crappie in the SA area. I have asked several times over the years on here and didn't get one decent reply other than try the 99 bridge at choke canyon or "upriver" on Canyon. I know the Cranes Mill area on Canyon has produced in the past and up from the airport launch on the Nueces has produced for me as well. The only bad thing aboutMcQueeneyis access.

Black and chartreuse, red and white, and pink were good colors; although I did experiment and caught least one on every color I tried. The best method was just dropping them around the brush and LIGHTLY jig them.

This pig bit a pink jig.

That fish is "HOG"! bow_down

Also thanks for the information on the jigs. I have heard of a few good reports of some nice Crappie catches on the main lake of Mcqueeney this past fall. Also as "Steven168" reported I have heard that the Rebecca Creek area is a good winter spot for Crappie and White Bass. cheers

Thanks Steven for the information. thumb Also "Gitter" Mike was right on the money as for the jigs. All we were doing was just bouncing em a little off of the bottom. I was using a green/black jig and then switched to a red/white. Both were getting outstanding results. hooked

I was just reading a post in the Bass Section on the Gas pipe line ramp. There have been reports of vehicle vandalism being done while trucks are parked at the ramp. Things like tires being cut and vehicles being scratched. If you use that ramp be careful. eeks

Side Note: It is a shame that there is no public ramp on a lake that is being funded by Tax payers. Just my two cents. 2cents

There seems to be a heated topic relating to the lack of a public ramp in the Bass Section in reference to Mcqueeney. hmmm Seems that a lot of Anglers who pay Taxes are tired of funding a public lake that turned private. soap

I have two very good friends of mine that live on the main lake at Mcqueeney. I have also talked with a lot of people who live on the lake and most of em feel the lake is theirs. You can still get on the lake only if you know some one who has access to one of the private launches. If you ever want to bring up a topic for some heated discussion bring up a public ramp. splat

Oh Yea. Those are some super Crappie. This lake is loaded with em. I did manage to catch a few on the main lake this past weekend. :thumb Sunfish bite is super slow. Can't find anything deep. taz

Thanks Curtis and "0311" for the replies. Curtis: I know what you are saying and agree. Also I am glad you were able to catch some Crappie. I know you were trying hard. As active as they are I knew you would get em. hooked

"0311": I could have not said it any better. Just fishing and having some fun is what it is all about. Plane and simple. fish
