I am going to look at a 92 Basscat Pantera II with a later model 150 Mercury in the morning. Do you guys have any advice for me as to what to be looking at on this older Pantera? I have owned many boats through the years from brand new rangers to literally $300 Junkers, so I know to check out the wood transom and floors.

The boat looks to have very rough carpet and seats, and all the electronics will need to be replaced, so other than gel coat, all cosmetic stuff is moot to me. Any ideas on what it may be worth in current condition?

One other thought, and maybe somebody can help me with this. I am concerned with the narrow beam of the boat, especially up front. Are the Pantera II’s stable boats or do the rock around a bunch when you move in them?

Thanks!

I looked at a similar boat recently (in Manchaca tx)the boat was pretty rough. Nice enough guy tho, he told me the motor had low compression 102-103 and that the oil tank inside the cowling had melted due to an overheat a couple of years back. Sounds like it might be the same boat.

'97 Astro S-18 F/S, Merc 135...it ain't pretty but it's paid for!

Thats the one. I ended up picking up a tin boat for little of nothing that will get me by for the time being I think.

I knew that he had said that the oil pump was bad, but mentioned nothing about the low compression to me. Whoever buys that boat will have to do a full cosmetic restoration on it for sure.
