Hey TFF - Thinking of making a drive out to Fork this weekend and was hoping some of you experienced Fork guys could weigh in. It's about a 3.5 hour drive then the additional costs of lodging and with the current weather I'm not sure how productive this weekend might be. I don't mind the cold but this would only be my second trip there so I'm not familiar with how much this weather pattern affects Fork. Hell, I'm still fairly new to bass fishing and not sure on the weather will effect the bass either for that matter! Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I'm going later today for the weekend, but honestly I'm not planning on a real good bite. There is another small front coming through tomorrow as well. The water temps last week were from 52 to 56 degree's.
With that being said, if your not looking for a lot of bites this is a good time of year to catch that prespawn double digit fish. So if you looking for a lot of bites, I wouldn't come that far, but if you enjoy just being on the water and fishing for that one BIG bite, head this way.

I think this weekend will be a good weekend, this last few days of cold weather should have dropped water temps down below 50 and some bigger fish should be getting hunkered down for the winter.
I wouldn't expect many bites, but the ones you get should be good ones. 2 days after the last major front, we fished Fork and had a good day on a blue bird ,post frontal day with almost no wind, had around 20 fish up to 9 pounds. All the fish we caught were 4 pounds and over.
Also with the full moon being Friday and Saturday this should help with the bite as well...

How about that for two OPINIONS!!! That's all we have in opinions. You just have to decide if it's worth the drive to you. Can't predict the fish.

Appreciate it! Definitely looking for the big bite over the numbers...looking like I may just have to load the boat and head out there tomorrow. Thanks for the quick response.

I've never thrown a spoon but plan on stopping at LFT on the way there and picking up a couple to give it a try.

I would pick a major creek channel and tie on a jig and start pitching it, but then again I love the winter jig bite better than anything else. The deeper fish also should still be there and the plus of that is you'll likely catch a ton of sandbass also, so at least you'll get a bite and a fight.
But if it was me I would pitch jig all day long!

I would split it up between Fork for a giant and some hot water fishing on Monticello or Welsh for numbers. I am ready for a hot water bite myself.

If you are fishing for more than one day I would hit fork first and if it isn't good I would drive a little ways down the road the next day and go to welsh or Monticello
