Does anyone use planer boards in the Gulf? Was thinking of trying some out on a party boat while headed out for tuna on those 36 trips. Don't know what type of board would hold up to 9 or more knots however without flipping around. Anyone tried it?

You mean a diving planer or one to mimic an outrigger effect?

Not sure one would stand up at that speed plus they might need some tuning to keep from fouling not to mention the chance of fouling on seaweed and such. I would troll a no alibi trolling feather; red/white 4 oz.

grew up on charter family in great lakes and is in comparison with off shore swells, with the right wind direction great lakes can see 15-20 waves and also u only have to motor out about 4-6 miles and ur in 300ft of water already......we used hvy duty plsner boards that go out bout 50 yrds on each side and then we'd have 5 lines ran off each planer , fish would bite and releasr the snapclip from the main line u would see that line going syraight behind the boat when trolling.when fishing the bays, obiously its ginna b much calmer conditions so then we would just snap on the little planers per pole, the only sucky thing for that is trying to reel in a big fish and the mini planerboatd at the same time, as the planer is still trying to do its thing by pulling out and away ftom tge boat....lol
