I cheat. Have an Electroless nickel bath at work. Just drop steel or aluminum in the bath and a nice conformal coat of nickel everywhere. If I want to be real pretty will drop in the gold bath.

Just a quick question. How much clearance do you have between the threads of the bolt and the rod when it is sitting in the rod holder? Is that bolt going to "dig" into the bottom of the rod when the rod loads up? I think they should work pretty good. Good luck to you.

The bolt is just barely clearing, so gonna cut the remaining of bolt past the nut... should be fine then.

I love creativity---you will learn the whys and why nots after you have used them. But don't be too quick to discount all advice. Some have been down that trail. I have looked for the rings have not found them. Do you know what part of the store they are in? Witch Home Depot did you get them from IE. Lewisville, Denton, Alaska???? Lol JK.
