I tried to search but couldn't find the info... I'm pretty sure this has been talked about, but...

Do you guys record at 720 or 1080? ...30 fps or 60?

You'all have given me the itch for a camera and mount smile

I do 720 @ 30 on long trips and 1080 for short trips.

I find that for me I like 1080 30. It seems to work best for most of my vids'out of the yak or paddle board. Go check out YouTube and see what looks best for you after they have been uploaded. I use the hero 2,3, and Olympus stylus tough for all my recording. Go pro mounted and the Olympus as a handheld for underwater shots as well as stills. Have fun man.....it's a blast filming and editing...

Doesn't YouTube convert almost everything to 720 max? How can you tell the fps on there?

I do everything at 1080 30, I would like to do faster fps but my gopro hero2 only does 30fps at 1080P. I could step down to 720P at 60 FPS, if I knew what I was shooting was going to be something that in editing I would use slow motion effects on, then I would opt for that. Generally I have no idea what I am going to capture so I set by default to just having higher resolution.

Brian, youtube will do 1080P. The FPS is important in editing. Faster FPS will allow you better "effects" Slow Mo's etc during editing. The default FPS on youtube is standard NTSC 29.9. Next camera I get I want 1080P at 60FPS. It takes more memory cards, but I generally carry a lot with me.

I've never noticed 1080 on there. I'll go look closer.

I figured 60 fps was more important for slo-mo and grabbing stills. The cameras that only do 720/60 (no 1080) are a lot cheaper overall so I wondered if 1080 is worth the extra.

Btw, I have an old Playsport but it doesn't give the quality of the gopro or drifter.

Most of my videos on youtube have a 1080 option to view.

Recording at a faster Frame rate is always better. The hero 2 only does 1080 at 30 , I am curious as to what the hero 3 looks like at 1080 @ 60. I like to get my fish jumping out of the water so I have to go down to 720.
