Check out a little school called Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Cane River Lake, Chaplins lake, Sibly Lake, Murphy Lake, Lake Dunn, the Red River, and others are right in town. Toledo Bend is just down the road a piece too (45 min).
They are also SFA's rival school in the Southland conference. I forgot to mention, Chaplin's Lake is actually ON campus.

I hate to say it but Tarleton isn't close to any good lakes. Being a part of the Tarleton Bass club that has been the only disadvantage. There is a lot of travel to get to a good lake.

If you weight the nearest bass lake and the strength of the college equally, then the answer is absolutely Dartmouth. 1hr20min from Lake Champlain and the university is a solid 2 tiers above pretty much every school that has been mentioned in this thread so far. Just a bit far from home...

Zapata is served by schools in Laredo, fifty miles to the north on U.S. Highway 83 through Laredo Community College, Main and South campuses, and Texas A&M International University. In addition, educational institutions are also available fifty miles to the south in Rio Grande City, through the Starr County campuses of both South Texas College of McAllen and the University of TexasPan American of Edinburg.

That's what I was thinking. UT Tyler? UT Dallas? UT Arlington?

UT Austin is 15 minutes from Lake Austin, which in the past year has produced a few decent fish... lol
I don't always catch bass, but when I do, I prefer Dos Bass

No offense, but if your looking at colleges by what lakes are around, then your definatly looking for the wrong reasons.

Texas Tech was crossed off my list due to the minimal fishing, which ultimatley was location. So I don't see anything wrong with it being part of the decision process.

Get your associates degree at Northeast TX Community College in Mt. Pleasant, 5 minutes from Lake Welsh, 15 From Monticello, Sandlin, Cypress, and close to Fork. Then transfer to SFA. Man I miss the fishing at lake Nacogdoches.

Fish killer is right up to a point. If your confident in your accademics and satified with the college's program in what you want to do then looking for schools with Bass programs is great. My rule when I chose was "as long as if has a compition bass club".
As sombody who fished college series I would say that if having the lakes your will be competeing on is high on ur list then no question SFA wins. The tournements in FLW college are mainly at Sam rayburn, T-Bend. FLW stoped going to Falcon and Amistad every year for college. It is really hard to fish the tourneys blind, it can be done, Angelo State has won a few on lakes we had never seen. But having that prefishing time is awesome and deffinatly will help you.
If just having good lakes around is your point then there are several. U.T. has lake austin, UNT lewisville.
Angelo Should be on your radar especially if your field of study is gona be science of some kind.(really high ranked physics and chem department) 2 hours from Amistad, 45 mins from O.H. Ivie. Oak creek just to the north and two lakes in town, nasworthy and Twin buttes. Great guys in the club.
