Hey Guys,

My 997c unit's transducer wire got fouled up today. Not the wire itself, but 3 pins broke on the back. I guess 2 were bent severely and the housing wouldn't go in all the way to the back o the unit so I tried bending them to fix but they snapped off, ugh! I called up HM and they said it is over $260 for a new transducer wire?!?!? Crazy!!!!

There are 3 plugs that go into the back of the unit and the one that broke is the one that has 7 pins (3 broke off) So I assume this is the transducer one since the GPS and Depth work fine.

Anyone know where I can pick up a transducer for cheap/used, etc? I would feel absolutely ridiculous spending $260 on one. I was thinking they would be like $100-$150 new from HB, but $260 is sickening to my stomach lol. Anyone have any used ones on here.

Thanks for your time.

The transducer and cable are an integral unit and it would be very difficult to replace the connector. First you'd have to find the exact replacement connector and then know how to solder for a very low voltage connection. Doubt seriously you could do it unless you have experience in this area of work.
Afraid you will have to bite the bullet on this one, as distastful as it is.
You might put a message on the forum asking for someone that has an extra they might sell you cheap or maybe swap for something elss???? Just a thought.

Thanks for the info. Also, would I have to remove the piece that is mounted to the lower portion of the back of the boat? Or would I just tie the new wire into that? I'm guessing it's a complete replacement and would require me to remove the entire other wire and mounting piece and reinstall it all. Right?

The plug, cable, and transducer are all one piece. The mount that attaches the transducer to the boat hull is separate.
The transducer plug has 5 pins. The unit receptacle has 7 holes.
The GPS antenna plug has 4 pins and the Com port on the unit has 6 holes.
The power cord plug has 2 pins and the unit power receptacle has two holes.

You can get the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T transducer from a marine electronics dealer for less than the MSRP.

You can also look up that number on Ebay

Which pins broke off. Can you make a drawing and post. It's possible a "Y" cable, connected with a standard transducer will still allow the SI transducer to work.

All 5 pins on a Side Imaging transducer plug are functional. If a pin is missing there would be no electrical connection for the Y cable to get a circuit.
One pin is a common neutral, one pin is the temperature, one pin is the 83/200 kHz crystal, one pin is the left side SI crystal, and the last pin is the right side SI crystal.

If two pins are missing, the Y cable may only give the 2D function back since that is all they Y cable does is disconnect the 2D function of the HDSI transducer and connect the added 2D transducer.

X-Ray of a HDSI transducer:

Unfortunately it was just 1 pin but then it turned into 3 pins. Without the 1 pin, the down and side was working but after I broke the other 2 pins neither the down or side was working, only Sonar lol. So I need to get a new transducer.

I found a company that sells them for much cheaper than Humminbird so that is good at least, but it stinks still to have to spend almost $200 for something when it's just a dang pin, I wish I could just by an end piece and solder it or something.

Dangit, I THINK this IS what the solution was- Y CABLE, but I bought the whole doggon transducer and it doesn't seem to be what I need. I wish someone would've wrote back after I answered your question haha. O well. ughhhhh
