Well this definitely confirms what I tell everyone. Jimmy Smith somehow some way knows every single person in Texas. We were talking earlier and it turns out, Jimmy bought a truck in East Texas from Johnny's dad. Then took him and his son or sons all fishing two or three times. It's been four or five years ago, but right now Jimmy is winning the celebrity customers contest for sure!

Two years ago my wife and I were sitting at our assigned table for the evening meal on a cruise ship, a guy and his wife sit down across the table and we started talking about stuff, kids, work, hobbies and just stuff. I mentioned that I lived at Cedar Creek and fished for hybrids and stripers, he asked me where I fished for stripers and I told him Tawakoni, next words out of his mouth, "do you know Jimmy Smith?" They were neighbors 30 years back.

When I first started working where I did years ago, not many knew I fished ... I worked with a guy that is retired now ... He started talking fishing ... He asked if I knew Jimmy Smith on Tawakoni ... I said " who doesn't " he then told me he went to high school with Jimmy and STEVIE RAY VAUGH ... So I guess Jimmy knew SRV also

That had to be Kimball High School, my mother went there also with SRV

I met him one morning at holiday, I was kinda sure it was him with the store, used to go in there years ago.

Smitty's would turn off the overhead lights in the middle of the day to pretend they were closing if there were too many customers milling inside the store! I had a girlfriend that knew the family. I was fishing Tawakoni about three years ago and Jimmy was fishing close by. He went out of his way to speak with me and helped me with my fishing, even though he did not know me and had customers in his boat.

A couple of years ago when my coworker, Joe, found out that I fish Twok. First thing he said was the last time he fished Twok was with Jimmy Smith, and do I know Jimmy? Everyone does know Jimmy!

And my last trip to the airport on the shuttle bus, several guys were on the their ways to fish the Amazon and they knew Joe Read too. Small world!

That was Ray's Sporting Goods that turned the lights off on people, not Smitty's Sporting Goods. My Dad would have never done that. Thanks for all the great comments.

He used to bass fish Fork quite a bit as well. He can probably tell you as much about Lake Fork as anyone.

Other than Barlows, they had the best supply of slabs on the planet back in the day. They had a great gun shop along side the fishing equipment.
