NBC Dallas news at 6:00pm to talk about a Zebra Mussel project. I do not have anything further. Thought it would be something worth watching. Tune in and see.

Let me guess:
"Blah Blah Blah, Zebra Mussells. Blah Blah Blah, Can't get rid. Blah Blah Blah, Water Intake. Blah Blah Blah, Here to stay."
Close?

Company Demonstrates Control of Zebra Mussels in Illinois Lake

Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. (MBI) a leading provider of natural pest management products for water and agriculture applications, announced that Zequanox was highly effective at controlling invasive zebra mussels in Deep Quarry Lake located in DuPage County, Illinois.
Zequanox, the industrys only environmentally compatible molluscicide, was applied within barrier systems in three locations throughout the lake. Results showed that treated sites experienced an average mussel mortality of 97.1 percent compared with 11.2 percent mortality in the control (i.e., untreated) sites.
In the study, funded in part through a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, three sets of paired treatment and control sites were set up within the lake to evaluate the effectiveness of Zequanox. Zequanox was so effective at controlling the invasive mussels that the study concluded after just one month. The study also showed that the application of Zequanox had no impact on water quality and no adult or juvenile fish mortality was observed 24 hours after product application.
Zequanox has proven to be a powerful tool for controlling invasive mussels in in-pipe applications such as cooling water systems. This study shows the product can be equally as effective in open waters, said MBI Director of Water Technologies Sarahann M. Rackl, Ph.D., P.E. This successful study represents MBIs next step in our commercialization efforts for Zequanox in natural water bodies, and were excited about expanding into this new market, where there are currently no other environmentally compatible treatment options.

No long term studies? Pesticides dont usually affect wildlife "24 hours after treatment". look at ddt for example, it didnt affect other species immediately but it totalled ecosystems further down the road. it sounds to me like theyre trying to push this through because theyre desperate for a fix to the infestation. Id expect major fish and bird kills from this unless they establish a year long study of long term effects.

Thanks JD, I'll tune in for sure. They came out and set some sort of device at Holiday Marina last week to check Tawakoni out for them. I like that they are being proactive.

I fished A GUY a couple of years ago that said they checked hubbard with a drag sein and found nothing.he said lavons problem was mainly restricted to the north end of the creek from Texoma.Tawakoni is on the wrong river for the migration part. I would have to beleive this guy ,he works for the water dept. and was on the boat doing the testing,he told me exactly where they siened.I think if Taw. or hubb. gets them it's from a boat.thats been there. I just hope everybody pays attn. to there boats when they use it up there.Just my 2 cents ,might not mean much.my boat stays home...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

My dad had several friends in Vietnam...they were covered by "agent orange" (herbicide) on a frequent basis, while on patrols....they have all passed in the last 10 yrs of the exact same type of rare cancer....it was later proved it was very toxic to humans...go figure
