Looks like we're headed port aransas then to POC for some fishing around Christmas. I'm not experienced down there during the winter months. If the seas are calm we'd like to run offshore to some close rigs. What type of fish are present during that time of year at those rigs? Also if anyone is going to be down there and wants a tag along boat to run offshore I'd be game.
Any tips on locations or techniques would be great. Thanks guys.

Chuck- The endangered Red snappers should be at all the
"inside 9" areas you can think, unless they're rigs, most of those are gone.
"double-yellow" (23m from port A jetty) was still there a
month ago when I was there, great place for jacks, ling, kings & snappers but a LOT of pressure.........
I had a report from last week there were pompano being caught in the surfline s. of the pier.

Do you know the heading or coords on the 23 mile rig? I can probably find it if not. Sound like a lot of the rigs have been coming down lately. Do you recommend one bait over another for ling, kings, & jacks.

We had a blast catching 4-7ft sharks this summer. Anyone have any tips on how to find them this time of year.

don't have a heading, but it's dang-near due east, maybe 5-6m past
the tanker anchorage area.
just make sure you got a case of sardines & a case of squid,
chum up your drift & it'll be on!

I know that if you go out of POC, there is a rig almost due east from the end of the big jetty that holds small snapper and mangrove snapper. This time of year, you might also run into some bull reds both at the rigs and end of the big jetty. Other than that, I would expect that you would get the occasional Spanish Macks. Gl

Chuck,

Looks like ill miss meeting you again... Im in North Texas for xmas. Double yellow is approx. 70 degrees. Ull have plenty of opportunity there. Look for anchored ships out that way also and back up to em chum and ull prob wind up with a good catch. If you dont have two engines be very very carefull going past 10 miles without a good radio as cell phones do not work past about ten miles. Catch some bait piggy perch by the docks or jetties and take them live. For snapper you need to stay within 9 miles the first rig out of the jetties is ten soooo... Be carefull. For easy and close snapper just hang a right out of the jetties and follow the beach and ull see a big flat rig its gulf rig youll find easy limit just smaller typically than we get way out. Let me know if you have any questions.

Chuck, I have used this site to find groups of rigs on google earth.

http://www.travelbygps.com/special/gulf/oil_gas_rig_platform.php

It is a little old and has some duplicate data points, however it has worked good for me. I loaded in google earth and transferred the data to my GPS on the boat. Hope this information was not to late.
