I recently got a rod wrapper and drier from a fellow TFF member and I need a little info from local rod makers as to where to buy some blanks and other materials in the metro-mess area. Preferably in the Ft.Worth and mid city areas. I have looked at mudhole and janns net but would like to buy local and not have to wait for delivery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you can mail order from mudhole.com, fishing tackle unlimited and various others.
I am a part time custom rod builder, Rods By Chris. I specialize in fly rods, but just down right enjoy building custom fishing rods. I see each as a piece of art. rodsbychris@gmail.com

I have ordered a few things from mudhole.com, but would like a local place to buy from to so I can check it out before buying it and save a return ship cost.

Your not gonna find much...Barlow's use to carry low end CUI blanks but I believe they quit stocking them..They carry some thread (Pac Bay) and maybe a few old spools of Gudebrod if you ask.Guides, reel seats,etc..Minimal supplies basically.Southwestern carries a few knick knacks as well but not blanks...Other than that,DFW does not offer much for rod building.... However,Temple Fork is in Dallas...Ive never inquired, but you could contact them and see if they sell blanks direct although they'll probably want a minimal order... My advice is too order your parts and grab a few blanks instead of one to help the shipping sting less;)...Most of the suppliers online just have a much more vast selection. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. That is what I was afraid of, not much to choose from around here. Since it is just a hobby right now, nothing to sweat about.

I think first is better to buy "Rod-Building Guide" by TOM KIRKMAN,because you can learn a lot from this book how to build a rod. I built many spinning rod without wrapping tools, just using my hand and one dryer improvise by me from one grill electric motor. I built some rods just for me,i am not rod builder( just one hobby)and the fish don't complain about my rods ,catching a lot of fish with this rod. You can see in these pictures two spinning rods built by me,one on 10' RAINSHADOW XTS1264 blank, and one spinning rod built on fly blank 9'w9 picture sharing free image hosting image hosting sites

I agree with this. Mudhole has some good sales right now. They have some sanded blanks specials and some high modulus specials. I just some and I was surprised at the quality of these blanks!

Anglers Workshop is another good online supplier. Very helpful customer service if you are unsure about what components will work with your blank.

Check out Get-bit-outdoors website. Kevin is a good guy and I do alot of business with him. Shipping is quick and prices are fair. I build on Batson Rainshadow blanks and you can get easy recipes for the build on Batson Enterprises website. You find the rod you are building under the guide spacing section and they give you a PDF of all of the suggested components and guide spacing. You can then order each compnent through Get-bit-outdoors by product number. Just a suggestion but it makes life much easier for me and I have built quite a few rods without having to go to a store and match up componnets. At first I wanted to hold each component in my hand so that I would know what I was getting but we only have one shop here and their rod building section is limited. I have yet to order a suggested component and not been satisfied.
