I was seriously in doubt when I came to the bait shop and noticed everyone buying this stuff and running into the bays to catch fish. I had planned on an afternoon just kicking back catching and releasing some whiting or whatever else would bend tighten my line on Saturday at Mustang Island State Park. Well, I bought a pound of fresh shrimp, some #2 circle hooks (and some 3/0 circle hooks in case bull reds were around). Well, I tied up some surf rigs with pyramid sinkers, 3-way swivels, terminated with a #2 circle hook and impaled a 1-inch piece of bright-GREEN FISHBITES!!! This stuff worked on the Whiting!!! I didn't believe it!!! But it did! I ended up feeding the shrimp to the sea gulls and saving my hands, the fishbites smell like nothing to us humans. I'm sold on this stuff! Has anyone else tried fish bites for other species in the surf, besides whiting? Does it work???

Back to fishing and I have been using it for a while, we have caught black drum, whiting, croaker, and other species on it. Until recently, I have found them to be hit or miss as bait. They would work for a while, then the fish wanted dead shrimp, then they would cool out on shrimp and go for the fish bite.
The past few weeks, they have been hot, caught tons of whiting, croaker, and even black drum, they stayed on the hook longer than fresh dead, thus giving something big enough to take the hook time to get to it.

Yup, caught some of my biggest Pompano on Fishbites in the surf and in the intercoastal waterway too! Good that you caught yourself some Whiting! They don't care what color it is! I also like that the stuff stays on so long in those waves!

We did well on Pompano with them, we alternate between the pink and green strips cut down into about inch squares, slow release shrimp flavor.
I was pretty skeptical about them until recently, now I try to make sure we have a pack or two with us.
I have run into times that they out fish fresh dead, other times it is the opposite, I guess it depends on what the fish want for that minute.

Usually 2 or three a trip, while we were targeting whiting and reds.
I have just started to catch them here in Texas and haven't figured out where and when is the best time to target them.
An old salt told me a long time ago that to catch any quarry consistently you have to know everything you possibly can about your target. I've been doing this for a few years now and am just figuring out Croakers. lol

Pferox and I caught this on one trip to 91st Pier in Galveston using FishBites and dead shrimp. We had over 80 fish with most being whiting in the 10-16" range. We had some pompano and reds on the bottom of the cooler.
