Doug, is it available now? If not, do you know when? Also, any word on the release date for iPilotLink and the GPS puck? LakeMaster IPilot Link compatible card will be after the first of the year before release announcment. I think iPilot Link is in January. They are building 360 Imaging as week speak so the GPS HS should be ready for release soon too. I would talk to your local Humminbird/LakeMaster and MinnKota Dealer for exact dates.

All SI Models have dedicated SI Elements in the Transducer 598c HD, 798ci HD, 898c, 998c and 1198c. The Larger transducer on the 898c, 998c and 1198c will create a little better image and can be used on the 598c HD and 798ci HD.
But they are both Dedicated SI Crystals.

Is the Humminbird 898c HD Si worth the extra money over the Humminbird 898c SI? How much of a difference does the HD make? The HD Designation on the 898c/998c is to represent the highest pixel count screen and most importantly these units have the NEW LED backlight like the 700HD and 1198 already have. Which helps some in super bright sunny days.

Is the Humminbird 898c HD Si worth the extra money over the Humminbird 898c SI? How much of a difference does the HD make? One more thing the MSRP of the 898c HD SI is the same as the MSRP of the 898c SI. There is no price increase for the change of the display to the LED backlighting. You may find some discounted discontinued 898c SI models.

I have an 1198 and am having problems with my three preset buttons. I have them setup with the three views that I use the most and I switch back and forth between them several times a trip. Usually once a trip when I am hitting one of the preset buttons the unit will say powering off and shut down. It is a very intermitant problem and may only happen once every 100 times I switch views. Also my temperature will disappear and I have to reset defaults to get it back, which is a pain because then I have to redo all my settings. I have sent the unit back to Hummingbird and they said they could not recreate the problem and sent it back to me. Anyone have any thoughts?

Check the voltage readout.
Did you extend the power cord directly to the battery?

I have an HB 987C SI unit that came with my boat when I bought it earlier this year. The side image is darker on the port side compared to the starboard side reading which seems perfect. No fooling with the settings helps. Is the SI going south? Sonar and di works fine. High speed sonar is a no go so there must not be a y cable and thru hull transducer. Seems to me that it is a possibility the si part of the transducer is bad. I've fooled with the mounting to make sure it is shooting straight down while scanning. It is mounted to the jackate hole shot plate on the lower right side.
Also I've also tooled with the idea of putting this unit on the bow eventually because I've thought of upgrading at the console in the springtime. Would I have any issues putting the 987 on the trolling motor?
Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the transducer cable connected to the cable collector to see if it is a single cable or Y cable? Post a picture of the transducer install. As far as putting the transducer on the trolling motor, you won't know if it will have an issue with RFI until you do it. You can take the transducer off the mount and hold it under water to see if the left side crystal is working properly and your mount location is the issue. The replacement transducer is this one if you need it: http://store.humminbird.com/products/313990/XHS_9_SI_160_T

Come to think of it there is a y cable but I think it is for the interlink. Mount location is perfect as far as I can tell. The transducer is where it should be after I reviewed data and compared to others. No obstructions. Only image I have right now is below. When using the si there are images but they are nowhere as clear as the right side. It is like the right side image is clear and bright and the left is a lot darker and nowhere as clear. Can hardly make it out.

SuperG, your location looks good. From what I have experienced and read about, the left side SI crystal is the one that fails the most. I have a XTM 9 SI 180 T that the left side quit working.
You could have an issue with your display. The best way to find out is test your unit on another SI transducer and connect another SI unit to your transducer.
Additionally your DI can't be working fine if you have SI issues. The DI image is computer generated using the SI crystals. Humminbird SI units/transducers do not have a dedicated DI crystal.
