I was just wondering if anybody has fished it recently? I am headed down there with some buddys this weekend and do to college finals have hardly gotten to do any research on the fishing. Are the fish in fall or winter patterns?

Fishing at Amistad still a little slow. It is has been getting a little better. I have been catching them on Jerkbaits, Carolina Rig, Spinnerbaits. The majority around grass beds, sitting anywhere from 10-15 ft casting to 3-5 ft. These fish haven't been very active so 1-2 jerks and a 3-5 second pause has been the key. Baby bass colors, ghost minnow, perch colors work best. The back of some of these coves and bays have a lot of green grass so keep a eye open.Carolina rig on these same flats has been good also. I have been throwing a xcite ubershad in watermelon red and xcite magic colors. Stanley wedge spinnerbaits in a 1/2oz in the bream color are catching them too. I hope this helps you a bit, and if i can help you in any way, give me a buzz. farwestguide@gmail.com 830-422-7674 Raul Cordero

Don't allways need a guide but when I do I call Far West Grill. Tight lines my friends. And don't forget to stop by his grill for some brisket tacos.

dmr183, Here is my latest report....
Bass fishing here at Lake Amistad is beginning to become a lot more predictable over the last couple of weeks. The water temps are in the low-mid 60s. Catch rates have increased and are 20+ keeper bass on a typical outing. The quality bite is still fairly elusive as we continue to catch a few 4-6lb fish every couple trips, but it is still a grind to catch those bigger bass. Water levels continue to be steady and the current lake level is 1082.38 which is a little over 34 feet below conservation pool. That translates to plenty of water in the lake!
Current Patterns -
Shallow: Many of the bait fish in the back of the creeks have disappeared and are moving out to the deeper water. There is still tons of hydrilla all over the lake although there is evidence of it becoming dormant. My best approach the past week has been staying on the main lake around the hydrilla and targeting 1-15 feet of water. I am using the Ima Rock-N-Vibe in Hot Craw around the flats over the top of hydrilla. Around the deeper points with grass I am still using the Ima Flit 120 jerkbaits in Ghost Tennessee Shad and Tennessee Shad. Casting squarebill crankbaits in natural colors over the flats and around the points is producing as well.
Mid-Depth: I have been working this depth zone hard with some varying success. Football jigs in browns and purples are working on the edges of the grass in 10-15 feet next to very deep drops (60-100ft). Texas rigged El Grande Lure Jr. Gila Monster are also productive. I have also connected with some solid fish on crankbaits on the mid-depth main lake flats that have a carpet of grass on the bottom.
Best locations for me have been Caballo/Zorro/Tule and the main lake area at the mouth of the Devils River. (basically just out of Blackbrush up the Devils River until is narrows about 1 mile prior to Rough Canyon)
Good Luck!
