I was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointer to fix a 84' Johnson 75hp outboard , it just started to happen alot more frequently. I was driving normal on plane at it seem that 2 out of 3 engine would cut- out, and if i shut off the engine wait for 10-15 min and it would plane for a minute and cut out again. Any tips on this problem ???. Thanks

If the cylinders are cutting out, have you changed your plug wires and plugs, any other things to do with the firing system? If its int. like that it could be a high posiblity that there is something that is causing it not to get spark. Gary Purdy would prob. be your man on this one, are try Martin Pro outdoors.

No I dont, but look under the boats and motor section and he has commented on some other stuff, or I think there is a search on here up top where you could search his name. Sorry for not having the number.

Might look at the carbs. try to tune the high speed adjustment screw on the carb. What does the high speed screw do ??? The weird thing about the motor is sometimes it will run for 2-3 hours without any problem and other time it just get on plane for 2-3 minutes and seem like 2 0f 3 cylinders cut-out. Maybe i need a Priest to do Exorcist on that motor ???

Thanks T.B. , i was be able to pm Gurdy , and he gave me a good tip to start. Seem like the engine was starving for fuel, i need to check all the fuel connection, because i see a small gas pool collected in the engine housing.

Try replacing the plugs. If that doesn't stop the problem I would check the coils next.sometimes if coil has a crack or is starting to go bad it will do that as it gets hot.

Had a friend that had the same problem. He spent about 4k chasing this problem. finally found out the top two cylinders on his motor were overheating. a piece of gasket, (read rubber hose) had moved in the block that routes the water around the cylinders. it actually blocked the water flow. long story short, he opted for a new motor...have someone do a temp check on each cylinder to eliminate this problem for you... good luck
