The wife says get "my dream" rod/reel combo, so I am looking for some feedback and opinions. The only thing I am currently missing from my arsenal is a good set-up for throwing 1/2 to 3/4 oz traps as I plan to chunk a lot of them.
I know I will get a lot of different answers but thought I would check with the folks that have much more experience than myself. This will definitely be more $'s than I would probably ever spend on myself for one rig...but I have to do what the boss says to do. And yes...I have an awesome wife.

7ft medium heavy falcon buccoo "trap caster " on a 6:4:1 Abu Garcia Revo SX.
That's what I use and I like it.

Me personally I use a Duckett 7'6" Med/Hvy Cranking rid, I have a 6.4:1 ration shaman reel. It's IMO perfect for a trap, and I throw a trap a LOT!!!

I would use some sort of cranking rod; there's A LOT of them out there! Something 7ft + in length, medium-medium/heavy. Personally, I'd look into a Dobyns rod. Hope this helps.

Well if cost is not an object Id go with a St. Croix Legend Xtreme LXC76MHMF. 7'6" medium-heavy power, moderate-fast action, designed for 12# to 25# test line, and 3/8 to 1&3/4 ounce lures. An alternitive would be St. Croix Avid AVC70MHM, 7' long, 10# to 20# test line, 3/8 to 1 ounce lures. For a reel it would depend on how you fish traps. If you are going to burn them then Id go with a reel that really zips in the line. Id look very hard an the Daiwa TD Zillion Coastal 7.3 as it pulls in 32" of line with each turn of the crank. If you are fishing your traps slower then you should look into just about any of the Shimano, or Daiwa low profile bait casters starting at about $200 or up. TFP

Me personally I use a Duckett 7'6" Med/Hvy Cranking rod! This....or a Falcon Cara A.O.Y. Either way I like them both paired with a Revo Premier 6.4:1 or 7.1:1 ratio spooled with 30lb. Power Pro or 20lb. Flourocarbon

Call Ron at Reel Times Rods and have him custom build a rod just for you. He is building one for my wife that is going to rock. Any high speed reel will work.

I throw traps on whatever medium or medium-heavy rod I've got left in the boat when I get everything else rigged. Right now, I think I've got it tied to a rod/reel combo that my dad gave me. It's a 20-year-old mitchell rod with an Abu Ambassadeur of about the same age. Never had a problem, and it'll sling those traps all over the lake.

I like anywhere from a 7' to 7'6" Medium Heavy action rod for traps. I recommend a 7'3" or 7'6" if you throw a ton of 3/4 oz size.

Most longer rods will handle the bigger traps better. I use the Castaway 7'10" DD22 Crank rod with a highspeed H20 Mettle reel with BRAID. The reel is inexpensive but the best I have found for the money and it works just as well as the high dollar ones! On Rayburn our trap fishing is best when there is grass and the braid helps cut the grass. The big key to getting the bites is to "rip" the trap free and Mono or Fluoro does not do that as good as braid. They just mush and pull out the grass. With the longer rod and a slightly softer tip it is what is needed to keep the braid from pulling the hooks free from the fish.

MH Falcon "trap caster" and a 7:1 Pro Qualifier will get the job done nicely for less than most other combos you could price out.

Thanks for all the feedback. I will make a list of these and give them to the wife for a "surprise" Christmas present. Thanks again.
