I know that a thread very similar to this one pops up everyday, but. It looks like I am actually going to get my 1st trip to falcon for Christmas.

I will be there December 26th-30th

Searching through recent threads, it looks like staying at Sunset or Oso Blanco is going to be my best bet. I was hoping to find a place with a kitchen so I could cook and not have to eat out every meal to save some jack. Any better ideas?

My concerns

Cranking Line- I usually throw 12lb test for my DDers, I feel quite sure this is not a good idea for this this lake. How big can I go and still get a decent cast, how big do I need to go.

Jig Line- I love to throw jigs, that being said do I need 25lb floro or is 20lb enough. What are yalls thoughts on braid at this lake (why wouldnt I throw braid with a stout leader)

What do I need to throw this time of year? Same game plan as fork?
- Spoons, DD cranks, Jigs, Carolina rigs on deep ledges (20 30 foot)

Thank you all for the help, so excited I cant stand it..I am going to break the double digit curse

As for as rooms contact BassinBilly on here and ask him if his cabin is open. It's pretty much a house overlooking the water. GreAt place with everything you will need. Hopefully by then the fish have moved shallower as water temp drops and you can catch them in back of creeks. Deep cranks, football jig, flipping the brush, Squarebill. Same old stuff as always. Never thrown a spoon down there. As for as line goes, I flip and grow jigs on 25 Flouro and crank with 15 and 20 Flouro depending on cover

the past few times I have been down there I've stayed at the state park, don't know if that would float your boat or not though. Might not be able to get a boat in there now. I throw a lot of braid down there. With cranks and everything else. Don't want a chance of losing a once in a lifetime fish. That being said in open water, I will throw some flouro at times.

I recommend staying at Billy's condo on the water.

As far as the Fish......... 15lb for Deep cranks and 20 for square bills.
22-25lb Flouro for Jigs and plastics.

I do fish braid there and it seems to me that I get more bites on flouro especially since all the pressure.

We will be there the 26th-2nd. Black dodge with a red and black legend.

I think 15 lb fluoro is a good all around crank line for Falcon. If you are hitting rock and you're not around a lot of trees 12 will work but if you're around wood go with at least 20. You might be fishing cranks from super shallow to supper deep (20 feet plus) so be prepared for both.

"Jig Line- I love to throw jigs, that being said do I need 25lb floro or is 20lb enough. What are yalls thoughts on braid at this lake (why wouldnt I throw braid with a stout leader)"
I like 65lb braid with a leader but that's just me. The guides I know down there seem to prefer 20/25 lb fluoro.

Yes, and probably most importantly on rock pile and rocky bottoms. As far as spooning, I've never tried it down there but I imagine it might be a great idea in the main channels if you find some fish suspending -- might be some of the reason people have been having a tough time down there lately.

Hope you have a great time. And make sure you stop by FLT for some up to the minute ideas.

I fish down there just a couple of weeks ago the fishing isn't as good as what I call normal. when I fish there I normally thow nothing but 50+ pound brad.. if you are around trees and rocks you'll need it.. those fish even the little ones think they are whales.. down at Falcon Heights there is a little store there run by Mike.. he has rooms there with full kitches and it's normally quiet there just outside of the state park.. there is a little town just down the road about 8 miles that you can get most anything you'll need and the place is clean and only costs about 50$ a night.. there is quite a bit of room.. and when you are down there don't forget to stop at Falcon Tackle.. they will tell you whats working and good areas to try. they will give you a good starting area.. look at his web site.. Falcon Lake and Tackle. has some good info.. you want the phone number to Mikes just let me know.. SAM
