Looking for the wrench that's used to take the cap off of the hydraulic cylinder. The motor is Evinrude 40 hp. The hydraulic cylinder has 4 holes on the cap. There is a special tool to put in 2 holes, and unscrew the cap. I've heard that you can use the wrench that is used to replace blades on a dewalt grinder. However, I do not have a dewalt and don't care to. If someone has the tool and would let me borrow it, I would be thrilled...DFW Thanks!!

have you tried buying the grinder tool from northern.home depot,or lowes? Out in the field we would stick the cylinders in a vice if the had the slot in them where the cap is, take a dull chisel and tap them until it came loose enough to unscrew. I know some tilt and trim cylinders have a little slot in them on the cap.

I've considered buying a grinder simply for this purpose, but I've spent quite a bit already. The wife would not be too happy. I guess i'll just try to beat it off with a punch. It unscrews with normal threads, correct? (counter clock-wise)?

Yes it should have normal threads,so I take it you cant buy just the wrench no more. well that sucks.

Well, I bought a universal one at harbor freight. It's adjustable to fit any size, but it just don't have the backbone. the adjustment screw always loosens up when i put out on it. I'll look around for the real tool. thanks for the help.

I got my Yamaha trim wrench from Moto-Stop but I didn't see one for Evinrude. They give the dimensions so you might see if it fits. www.moto-stops.com/

Not familiar with OMC cylinders, but assume similar to Yamaha. I made one to work on my Yamaha from a piece of 1/4 x 1 aluminum flat bar. Just drilled two appropriate size holes in it and put bolts and nuts to match the holes in the cylinder caps. Worked slick.

Different sizes for different makes, years and hp. Those OMC cylinder caps can be a bugger. Be carful with that punch, or you may need a complete T&T. I have had to use heat getting the caps out.

I used to have to change out the "O" ring seals on my old 90 Merc and this is what I used. http://www.zorotools.com/g/Wrenches/00057769/It is a Proto face spanner make sure you get the right pin size and you can use a dead blow to break the cap loose.

Had my system rebuilded not too long ago , trim motor went out afterward . They can be very difficult to remove if you do not have the correct tool ,
