How do y'all catch crawfish? I did it by using a spear with my buddy in a creek. I tried with a string and bacon but it never worked. Me and my cousin went in the shallow frio and picked up big rocks an caught a few like that also. I've heard and seen people do it with traps, and I've seen the traps at academy, bass pro, cabelas, etc... Do the traps work? And do you do it like the lobster fishermen of the east coast? Just smaller scale?

An onion can make people cry but theres never been a vegetable that can make people laugh.
If you get thrown from a horse, you have to get up and get back on, unless you landed on a cactus; then you have to roll around and scream in pain.
Sorry don't get it done dude
It's better to be a has been than a never was

You can seine them, trap them, and the bacon and string work s fine, you just have to be patient.

Traps or string and bacon. Or get a net and drag the ditches when they fill with rain.

Guess traps would be efficiant. When I was a kid I'd just wade the creek. When I spotted one I'd put a cup behind it, drop a rock in front of it and they'd shoot backwards into the cup.

In Louisiana we use the square crawfish nets set along irrigation canals/ditches. Bait and set out about 10-15. By the time you finish setting them out go back to the first one set and pull them in. Repeat till you fill the bag. Fun times especially for the kids.

When I was a kid, I'd just wade the creek, and grab em when I saw em. You muddy up the creek, and you can't see them. The traps work good, bait them with bacon and leave them overnight. I think crawdads are nocturnal. The best way I found last spring was to find a bar ditch with lots of holes on the bank. Get you a stiff rake and rake the muck up off the bottom and pick through it for your dads. They are good bass bait.

Even a small trap can catch a ton of craws in a short period of time.

I only know one ditch in the Keller Roanoke area that has them. Thats the bar ditch on the east side of 377, just south of Roanoke. Does anyone know of any others ?

Marine Creek lake off of 820 is loaded with them in the summer. I don't know what effect cold water will do to them.
