I was in my boat in the middle of the dam in 16ft deep water about 12:30 yesterday (12-5-12) trying to catch some crappie on my 6ft Pro angler rod with 8# test mono and a minnow on my #2 mustad crappie hook and I hooked a MONSTER... it ran for about 30 yrds and ripped half of my line off my spin cast reel so I took off after it using my trolling motor, after 4 or 5 runs down I finely got to see what it was. I did'nt bring a net so I'm trying and trying to get my fingers under her gills but she was having nothing to do with that!!! I finely got a grip on her outter barbs and flopped her in the boat..I'm a crappie guy so I was thinking, do I through her back?? but the more I looked at her the more I thought that may be a record Channel cat so I loaded up her and the boat and went home and called the fisheries dept and they said go to BPS and have them wieght it and varify it and certify it so I did and it was 29 in long and 16.5 girth and weighted 12.97 lbs and that beats the old record of 7.02 lbs... from what I can see on the TPWD WRL records is the biggest Blue and the biggest Channel were cought on the same day by the same guy about this time a year ago.. I've fished this lake my whole live, I LOVE WRL....I'm glad to finely have a record out there...P.S. sorry to the guy that had the record, I'll take out there fishing if ya want, I think his name was Robert, I'd better check or I'll have 50 Roberts wanting a fishing trip...

Can't resist given Tuesday's find at the lake... so on a recent episode of River Monsters, they chronicled a catfish in India that feeds on the human remains left over from bank side funeral pyres. The fish supposedly grows to mythic size. Catfish in White Rock must do the same... RH too.

Just curious. Why no pic? If I catch any species that's on the large side of things I'm not letting it go without a pic.

My camera on my cheap phone don't take pic's worth a darn. I've cought a lot good cats and only have taken a few pic's.. like I said if it would have been a big crappie I would have got some one with a good camera to take a lot of pic's...
