hey, glad to hear others like bait runners too. I have several different brands, my favorite is the Okuma from Cabelas now those are around $45, I bought several Peligic from ebay for $25 some years ago and I like those ok, Also i got some 'spandau' liveliners from ebay and those are good too. I do recommend reinforcing the foot on these reels, I've snapped two on giant $80 lb cats... ok really it was a tree frown

Oh, I don't recomend the silstar, well the older model any way, no auto off on 2nd drag.

Yeah, my guide in Thailand says the shimano's will wear out fast on big fish ad he had Diawas for the Mekong cats.

yea, those look pretty sweet. I wonder what the difference in quantity of ball bearings (BB) creates in the way of performance? I see some now with 9 and 10 bb but dont know just how that translates. I believe it pertains to how smooth the retrieval.

I'll tell ya one great development is the instant anti reverse, that is much better than my older open face reels that have two locking positions.

From the picture those look like shakespear combos. I don't have any of those (that i know of) but for the rod it depends what it is needed for.

My favorite cat setup is a yellow tournament choice (from acadamy) baitcast 7' rod and a Okuma baitrunner (don't know the model right off) loaded with 20lb white braid. I use the baitcaster rod because it has lots of small eyelets which allow me to store properly on the boat but i have to trim off the trigger. its very stong and I can cast well over 70 yds with 2oz weight.
