My main setup is a pair of 3.5 tc Dave Lane Razors, matched with Daiwa Emcast Plus 5500 filled with 40# powerpro along with a 3.0 tc Kyoceram carprider with a Tica Sportera 4500 gr with 40# braid. I fish these on either bank sticks or a Nash H-gun pod with Flajzar fishtron alarms. Various hook links and hooks.

Yup, Only use braid in Canada, and Texas soon, Use 50 or 65lb Whiplash Pro for the long chucks, its thinner and smoother, Use Power Pro in 65 and sometimes 80lb if the bottom is covered in rocks and other nasties, use Fireline for the hooklinks, its very stiff and gives great presentation on chod and pop up rigs.

Even when using a baitrunner, don't disengage it on the carps first run, slow the spool down with your finger, steadily increasing pressure, until the first run ends, then disengage the baitrunner, have clutch set very slack, and again use finger pressure to brake the spool, then slowly increase the clutch pressure as you crank the fish in, Don't know how Buffs fight YET, but commons in the St Lawrence regularly take 80 + yards of line on the first run.

Typically buffs don't run off like carp, but they can surprise you... ;-)

One of the most important pieces if gear I forgot for catching big buffs or carp is a proper landing mat. I just picked up the Nash monster carp cradle and it is perfect for safely handling big fish. Avid makes a nice one as well called the carp couch
