That one time it spooled all but 50yds and the backing before it broke the line due to the reel breaking down ... craziness! they have had a 70vs international spooled and they said it took the backing and everything!!!! At what point wuold you thumb it????? lol

Last trip for me my AVET 30W got spooled also, I have a 9/0 that was spooled last year in Galveston. I rebuilt with Tani drag washers and its good as new for a 1959 model.

I've never been spooled or come close while sharking.
It must be a crazy feeling. I've caught 8' sharks and 5.5' wide stingrays that haven't come close to giving my 9/0 a challenge.
I can't imagine the monster it would take to spool a 9/0 or avet 30w.

I read South Florida Shark Club forum a lot just to see the big sharks they catch there. There was a story one guy told about having his 9/0 spooled and then he took the last bit of line and tied into his 80w and that reel also got spooled before he could stop the shark. He was trying to tie into another 50w but couldn't get the knot done. Not sure if that is true or not, but it must have been a real monster!

That sounds crazy! i have personally seen a 14/0 get 90% of its line ripped off before it turned... but i couldnt imagine having to tie to another rod and reel! thats insane!
